Harry & Sophie are here...and c-section complications.
Wed, 09-28-2011 - 8:18pm

My twins were born last Tuesday, September 20th, at 38 weeks, via c-section. Harry was born at 10:00 AM and weighed 7 lbs, 4 oz. and was 18.5 inches long. Sophie was born at 10:01 AM and weighed 8 lbs, 1 oz. and was 19.5 inches long. At 1 week old, both babies were back up to birth weight. In fact, Sophie has surpassed her birth weight and weighed 8 lbs, 2.5 oz. Both babies are doing great.

I have had a complication recovering my c-section and I'm wondering if anyone has had/heard of a similar experience. My incision continued to bleed from the day of surgery. On Saturday (the day the twins and I were discharged from the hospital), the doctor diagnosed it as a fluid pocket and completely re-opened the incision. It was packed with gauze and bandaged it up and I was sent home. I have a nurse coming to the house 3 days a week to take out the old gauze and re-pack the incision. The other four days a week, my sister does it (she's a medical assistant). I've been set up to get 9 weeks of visiting nurse services, but I've been told that this will take much, much longer to heal. I'm feeling very sad and angry about this. DH & I went through a lot to get these beautiful babies. I feel like the experience that I was so looking forward to has been taken from me. I physically can't bathe my babies. I can't change their diapers. I can't stand for longer than a few minutes at a time and I can't lift them from their swings or basinettes. The only thing I can do to take care of them is nurse them. While I'm over joyed that my babies are here and healthy, my heart is broken that I can't take care of them.

Thank you to Sara for the siggy!

I'm sorry it didn't work out the way you hoped. I've never heard of the complication you're describing, I had a post-op uterine infection and that was bad enough, I'm hoping you feel much better soon and regain the strength to be more able to care for the babies.
Your babies are beautiful, great weights on them!!!

Congratulations on your twins! Look at their hair!! And your daughter was bigger then my 40 week singleton!! That's amazing!!

I am SO sorry about your c-section, I can't even imagine!! It sounds like someone seriously messed up your surgery and I would consider talking to a lawyer if I was you. That's just not right at all!

Oh honey, I'm so sorry it's such a rough going for you. Those babies are just gorgeous though and their weights are *incredible*!

I have a friend who was on 6 weeks post partum bedrest (HELLP and pre-e issues) and she told me that although she couldn't do much she could nurse her DS. That she was limited yet was the only one able to feed him helped her tremendously.

I pray you heal much faster than they expect.

Congratulations on their arrival, Melanie, they are adorable!

I'm so sorry that you are having such a tough recovery from your c-section. That would be so frustrating, I hope that you regain your strength and heal faster than they are thinking.

Ohhh, they're SO cute! Congratulations!! So sorry about the complications, that is hugely disappointing. I don't have any experience with that though... just hoping that you will heal quickly!
