Well, I went yesterday for my 36 week appt. and monthly U/S and there was about a lb. difference in the estimated weights of the babies on the U/S so my Dr. did a NST to track the babies and hooked me up to the contraction monitor as well even though I would be having a C-Section. The babies did great and it turned out that I was having contractions 3 minutes apart!! My Dr. stopped internals at 34 weeks b/c either I would make it to my scheduled C-Section date of March 27 or I would go into labor and he wouldn't stop it. Due to the fact that I was contracting regularly he decided to do an internal... I was 6 centimeters dilated!! He said "how's today to have babies, you're 6 centimeters!!" DH and I couldn't believe it!! He sent us right to L & D for somewhat of a quick C-Section - we got to the hospital at 12:00 noon and the babies were born just after 2 p.m. Talk about fast!!
At 2:06 p.m. we welcomed Matthew Carter who weighed 6 lbs., 5 oz. and one minute later at 2:07 p.m. we welcomed his brother Alex Chase who weighed 5 lbs., 8 oz. Both babies were 18 inches in length and both scored 9/9 on their Apgars so we were pleased!! The babies are in the regular nursery and they both received a glowing review from the pediatric staff here. They stay in the room with us all day from 8:00 a.m. until about 10:00 p.m. and the hospital rules say that they spend nights in the nursery for security reasons so we don't have to feel guilty about not keeping them with us and it allows us to get some well needed rest.
The C-Section was a breeze!! I didn't feel anything!! This morning was rough b/c a burning sensation takes over when I first stand up, but I am taking the available pain medication and it takes the edge off. I have been up and walking slowly as directed by my Dr. and nurses and tomorrow I get to take a shower which I am looking forward to!!
I'm so in love with my sweet babies...
