Juliette and Elia's Birth Story

After being hospitalized for three days due to a dilating cervix, contractions, and a minor pre-eclampsia diagnosis, our dr decided we needed an immediate delivery via C-section on Sunday June 5th due to lab results which indicated severe pre-eclampsia, and the fact that Baby B had turned breech and wrangled her feet in front of her sister's head, closest to the cervix, making a vaginal delivery no longer an option. The C-section went well, both girls were pulled out within the same minute and both gave out a healthy cry. Their initial apgars were 9 and 7. Juliette needed no assistance and Elia had breathing tubes for about 8 hours because of the effects of the magnesium sulfate I was on to prevent seizure prior to delivery. Both girls are now in the NICU needing time to get bigger, learn to regulate their temps and learn to feed on their own (Juliette has done some rooting and nippling, but both their sucking reflexes still need work). According to the NICU staff, the girls are doing "great." They're adorable and cuddly and we're doing well with kangaroo time and post C-section bonding. Pictures below...

The (very) Long Version
On Wednesday June 1st we went to our scheduled appointment with the MFM and found out that my cervix was dilated 3cm. Our dr. requested L&D triage see us the next day for an FFN test. Thursday we headed to triage, expecting that we might get a positive result on the FFN which might mean stricter bedrest, maybe steroid shots for the girls lungs. What we got instead was a "funky" lab result which indicated mild preeclampsia and a one way ticket to hospital admissions.
