This is going to be long--we had a whirlwind of a day on March 12!
At 33w4d I went in for a routine BPP. This was the first DH has missed, it was scheduled later than all my others so he had to get DD from school and couldn't make the appt. It was supposed to be at 1:30 but I didn't go back until around 1:50. All looks well until the tech really starts watching baby B, Jenna. I saw myself the same thing she did. Her heart was barely beating. She had me roll onto my left side where it stayed the same. Onto my right side her HB shot up to 186. Within seconds it plumeted to 51 BPM. It would rise and fall for what to me seemed like a lifetime. She walked out to get my Dr. (who is usually doing surgeries that day but just happened to be in the office). Once he came in he said that her heart shouldn't be tacking like that. He asked if I was alone, I said yes. His response floored me and still does. He tells me he's going to pull around front for us to go to the hospital to have the babies. He remained calm but after the fact I know he wasn't. He had DH's aunt (his lab tech) go with us, I think for comfort measures for me. I call DH and say get Karly and go straight to the hospital--no stopping to drop her off anywhere.
He tells me to lay in the back on my left side. He's asking me all the questions that are typicall asked prior to surgery: on any medications, allergic to anything, when I last ate, side effects of anesthesia. His office is about 10 miles from the hospital but you must get on the interstate to get there. He's on his cell making sure everyone there is ready for a "stat C". As we go in the physician entrance he tells me to walk as fast as I can w/o falling. He tells me I'll be given general anesthesia (totally under) and a lot will happen in a very short period of time. I go where they direct me and a lady helps me undress and remove my jewerly. Once they put me on the table all of this happened at the same time: anesthesiestologist (sp) is talking to me, I've getting my IV, I'm getting the cut hat put on, shaved and cathed. They run me out the door and make me drink a cup of something nasty since I'd eaten lunch only an hour before--it was to keep me from vomiting, which still happened.
They're rubbing the orange stuff on my belly while I'm sucking the sleep gas down--I want to be sure not to feel a thing!
