Hi all!!! We had....GIRLS!!! Here are the stats...see you on the First Year's Board!!! Thanks all for your support, and be sure I'll check in on the other multiple mommies to be! Cheers, Kera PS I HOPE THE BELOW IS COHERENT....NOT MUCH SLEEP FOR ME!! :)

Araceli Eleanor
6lbs 5oz @ 19" long was born at 4:04pm on Aug 3rd, 2006

Luciana Naarden
5lbs 7oz @ 18 3/4" long was born at 4:13pm on Aug 3rd, 2006

ALTHOUGH THE BIRTH WAS DONE IN THE O.R. IT WAS NOT A C-SECTION!! I GOT SO LUCKY. THE GIRLS WERE BORN VAGINALLY. ARACELI WAS FIRST (HEAD DOWN) AND LUCIANA WAS SECOND (BREECH). AFTER AN INDUCTION AND CONTRACTIONS ALL DAY, ARACELI CAME OUT IN 3 PUSHES. LUCIANA WAS PULLED OUT BY HER FEET BY THE O.B.

THEY WERE BORN AT 37 WEEKS AND 4 DAYS GESTATION.

BOTH WERE DISCHARGED WITH ME AT 45 HOURS OLD. WE ARE SO BLESSED! THEY EVEN CAME RIGHT TO MY ROOM AFTER THEY WERE BORN. AGAIN, WE GOT SO SO LUCKY.

other interesting facts, challenges and complications:
THE "C's" IN BOTH NAMES ARE PRONOUNCED AS "S's". THEIR NAMES HAVE SPANISH BACKGROUNDS. OUR FAMILY IS NOT OF SPANISH ORIGIN--WE JUST LOVED THE NAMES AND BORROWED THE HERITAGE SO-TO-SPEAK! THE NAME ARACELI MEANS "OF THE ALTER." THE NAME LUCIANA MEANS "BRINGER OF LIGHT."

TWIN B LUCIANA WAS GIVEN OXYGEN AFTER BIRTH, BUT THIS IS SAID TO BE "TYPICAL" AFTER A BREECH BIRTH ACCORDING TO OUR O.B. THE O.B. WAS WONDERFUL AND AN "OLD HAND" AT VAGINAL DELIVERY OF TWINS, INCLUDING WHEN THE SECOND TWIN IS BREECH.) THE O.B. WAS PRO-VAGINAL DELIVERY IF THE TWINS WERE VERTEX OR IF THE SECOND TWIN (TWIN B) WAS BREECH AND SMALLER THAN TWIN A. WE WERE LUCKY IN THAT THE TWIN MEASUREMENT SONOGRAMS SHOWED TWIN B WAS SMALLER BY 1 LB.

THE MAJOR COMPLICATION DURING THE PREGNANCY AND BIRTHS WAS THAT I HAVE SCOLIOSIS (SPINE CURVATURE). THEY WHEELED ME INTO THE O.R. AT THE VERY END, DURING TRANSITION, BECAUSE THE O.R. WAS WHERE THEY WOULD DO THE C-SECTION IF THERE WAS ANY TROUBLE DURING THE BIRTHS. I WOULD HAVE NEEDED GENERAL ANESTHESIA FOR A C-SECTION, BECAUSE I AM NOT ABLE TO GET A FULL EPIDURAL BECAUSE OF THE SCOLIOSIS.

OTHER CHALLENGES, BUT OF THE FUNNY VARIETY: GETTING SLEEP, GETTING SLEEP, NURSING 2 BABIES AND SUPPLEMENTING, AND GETTING SLEEP!!

OTHER FACTS ABOUT OUR FAMILY: WE HAVE ONE OTHER CHILD, A DAUGHTER NAMED HELLE (PRONOUNCED HELLA). HELLE TURNED 3 YEARS OLD IN JULY. I INHERITED THE "GENE" FOR TWINS FROM MY GREAT-GREAT GRANDMOTHER AND MY GREAT-GRANDMOTHER WHO BOTH HAD FRATERNAL TWINS.

WE DID NOT KNOW THE SEXES PRIOR TO THE BIRTHS--WHAT A WONDERFUL SURPRISE TO HAVE 2 GIRLS JOIN OUR FAMILY.

Thanks for sharing your story. I am 35.5 weeks right now, and planning to have a "natural" birth. My OB is also pro-natural, and I have to drive an hour to my hometown to see him, instead of getting a valley dr 15 minutes away from me. It is helpful to hear the success stories.

Funny thing is that I am wearing the SAME dress as you are RIGHT now. I love this dress, I call it my moomoo... but it is the most comfortable outfit I have right now. You looked great, and congrats on your twin girls!

Kera,

Congratulations on the birth of the girls! It's great to hear that you were able to have a vaginal delivery and that both girls were good sizes! Helle looks like a very happy big sister - it's a wonderful family portrait! I'll definitely be seeing you on the First Year board. ::hugs::
