GD test and appointment update!! :)

It of course started off with me getting up WAY too early. Like what should be illegally early. 3:40 am.

I did NOT want to leave my nice warm bed and silky smooth pillow. Rob was oddly unsympathetic *cough*.

I hopped into a shower and had the bejeezus scared out of me because our shower is super loud and I did not hear Rob open the door and come into the bathroom behind me.

And why do you ask did he have to scare me out of my skin? To tell me to only take a 10 minute shower.

First off my longest shower is 15 minutes. I do not like dawdling in the shower. I wash my hair, wash myself, shave (under arms if you must know) and get out. Rob takes 30 minutes in a fast shower and he even has less hair (well on his head anyway) to wash then I do, and he doesn't shave. He just dawdles.

We got Jensen up and got on the road. I was not feeling well at all and threw up before we left. I hadn't eaten since 6 pm the night before. I drop Rob off and get home around 5:30ish to get us back into bed. I set my alarm for 8:30 because I did not remember what time my appointment was lol!

3 hours passed by way too fast, but I called and they told me my appointment wasn't until 2:30 so I went back to bed until Jensen woke up.

Around 11:30 Rob calls me on his lunch break like he always does and I once more started throwing up because I of course was unable to eat anything.

I get me and Jensen out the door at 12:20 which is great because it takes 30 minutes to get there and the GD test takes an hour.

For those wondering why I am taking it so early it's because I am having twins. Your chances of gestational diabetes triple with twins, and go up even more if you have anything in the PCO neighborhood, which I do.

So I get to have TWO GD tests this pregnancy. Woo. Hoo.

I get there around 12:50 despite the rain being so bad I couldn't see more then 10 ft in front of me half the entire drive there.

I get the paper work done and head back to the lab. I get checked in and they started the initial blood draw.

I have pretty difficult veins, what they called in Oregon "vanishing veins". But here in Louisiana they have had no trouble and most get me on one stick. This one didn't even hurt. Then she informs me she is sorry but I have to have the orange flavor.

Ugh.

When I was pregnant with Jensen I failed the test I took with the orange one. It made me REALLY sick, but part of the problem was I was told I could have bread so I had a bagel and well bread turns into sugar in your stomach and this drink is almost pure sugar lol. So yeah. I failed that test by like 5 points.

But this time when I took it I didn't get sick at all, which considering that I had thrown up just before I got there was pretty miraculous. I felt just fine after I drank it and did not feel like I was going to throw it back up.

I hope that means I passed!! I should find out tomorrow!

Anyway they got my second draw done and I got out around 2:20, just in time to go up stairs to my OB appointment. Well it was PACKED so I knew I was in for a wait.

There is only ONE OB there and she has many, many, MANY patients. So I wait about 40 minutes and then get to go back and give my urine sample, take my blood pressure and my weight.

I was actually eagerly looking forward to my weight. I had been 7 lbs down last month if you remember, and I had tried so hard to gain since I was told to at LEAST gain 25 lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight by 24 weeks, which is 8 weeks away. Which means I had at LEAST 32 lbs I need to gain.

So I step on the scale hoping to see at least that I'd gained back those 7 lbs.

Are you ready for this?

In a month and after a weekend spent eating pizza and a steakhouse burger I gained...

1 pound.

ONE FREAKING POUND.

I am still 6 lbs down, 31 to gain in 2 months.

At this rate I will still be under my pre pregnancy weight by the time I give birth.

Sigh.

Then I had to go out and wait in the waiting room for the doctor to be ready. 20 minutes into my wait I hear that the doctor has been called out on an emergency delivery and will try to be back as soon as she can. if we'd all please wait.

At this point I am sure you moms of toddlers are going "Oh my God, I can't even imagine" and actually Jensen did AMAZING.

NO fits, NO whining. We had a few issues with him wanting to spit on his hands and play with it (ew, and sigh, boys). But he did not scream or fuss despite having to sit in his stroller all but 40 minutes the entire day (and if you are paying attention the other portions were spent mostly in his car seat).

We FINALLY get called back and they lead me to the ultrasound room so I am getting excited but sad Rob is not here. I am informed because it's twins she will want to do an ultrasound every appointment! Score!

So she comes in and takes a look but she just checks heart beats and watches them wiggle around a bit and then turns it off. She said because I had another ultrasound in a week that my husband will get to go to they can confirm gender then,

She said not to stress about my weight because as long as the babies look good, and they do, that it's ok that I am not gaining because I am trying hard to gain but in a healthy way, not in a mcdonalds 24/7 way. So they are getting what they need and they won't stress about my weight unless they start lagging behind, and then they will be force feeding me lol.

So we finally got to go and Jensen got a little nap in the car while we picked up Rob and finally got some food. We got BK so it was blah, not very good. I'm just having a hard time NOT really wanting to eat anything, and fast food really isn't on the menu for me right now. I want good food that makes me feel good. And fast food makes me feel even more tired and slow. And sometimes really sick lol.

I did not get any pictures from today but it was a relief to see the babies were doing well. Blake is still where he's been the entire time but B is the mover and he/she has now moved with his/her feet to my back and is facing down. Which explains why I feel movement but not kicks lately, so that was relieving.

Once you've had a loss you don't ever stop the worry. I am glad they won't bother with the guessing game of dopplers and just do u/s at regular OB appointments. It's a lot more relieving to SEE two heart beats then to wonder if you're hearing both or just one.

My next OB appointment isn't until August 22nd, but I have two ultrasounds in between with the MFM. One of course being next Monday, and the next being 3 weeks from that date.

I think it's mostly because I have PCOS and I am over weight, plus I have some distant relatives with diabetes. It all ups my chances of getting GD but I watch my diet very carefully when not pregnant. I want to be around to see my great grandkids so my health is a top priority. Actually dieting and losing 20 lbs is what got me pregnant with twins in the first place lol! Well that and you know what!

Sounds like you had a stressful day! I'm 22 wks with twins and the dr hasn't said anything about the diabetes test yet. I go in next week though so I bet he may mention it then.

Oh I didn't need the 3 hour this time, just my last pregnancy.

I am actually on a high protein and veggy diet for my blood pressure and it's really helped my blood pressure but not my weight gain yet!

Yay for passing! They had me skip the one hour and go straight to the three hour because of having gd before and having twins. I hate that test more than almost anything else during pregnancy.

Thank you! I've always had them do an initial blood draw before my 1h to establish normal blood sugar, then another an hour after drinking the stuff to see how it rose to measure how my body processes sugar.

I passed!!!

I am not nearly as sick this time as I was with my son. With him I threw up from 3 weeks to 37 weeks, it was why I took a test at all. I had very severe hyper emesis and threw up so much my throat would bleed. I have it again but I don't throw up nearly as bad. Only like 1-2 times a day, and some days I don't even throw up at all.

You had quite an exciting, albeit busy, day! I think I need a nap just imagining all the running around you did. Those early wake-ups are brutal, especially when you try to sneak in a few winks before your second alarm and that noise just comes too quickly.

I had my 1hr glucose test done at 21w, so I'm there with you in having it done early. Did you have to fast before doing it? It sounds like you had to have blood drawn before and afterl...I only had my blood drawn once and that was after the 1 hour. Even though I passed and doc initially said I may not have to re-do it, another doc in the practice said they would probably do it again around 26-28 weeks. I'm glad the drink didn't make you sick...I can't imagine stil being as sick as you are in the 2T!

Regarding the weight, I truly wouldn't worry about it. Easier said than done, but I was in your shoes about weeks ago. I was seriously freaking out that I hadn't gained any/enough weight, especially when it comes to the standards in Dr. Luke's book. I felt so behind! But let me tell you, I have more than made up for it and am up by 35lbs total. Eat what you can and when you can...I'm with
