I had an ultrasound yesterday and it was determined to be "abnormal". I have 1 egg that was described as .5mm of "soft tissue" and another elongated egg with 2 yolk sacs in it. No heartbeats - but I am only 5 weeks 5 days. They are saying I am carrying for sure twins, but what is that other egg??

Thank you both, onedunnydee and emc_squared. I know it'll get easier, but grieving for now. Am I going to always wonder if this other one makes it what it would have been like with his or her other half? :( Hoping that next week they see something but I know it's wishful thinking......

Thanks again to both of you for your help. We lost 2 out of our 3 - and the last one has a slow heartbeat at 94......so another week to wait and see what the ultrasound shows.......

Thanks for everything - that makes me feel so much better! My bleeding is stopped and my hgc level is doubling so hopefully things are progressing as they are supposed to. I have an u/s this coming Wed.....it's so hard to wait! We did fertility treatments back in September but stopped because we were going on vacation and so this pregnancy I actually ovulated myself. I think I ovulated twice and 1 didn't make it and the other one is splitting??

When we found out we were having trips the Docs said it was common to have a "vanishing" twin or triplet.

Okay, I think I'm with you now. :-)

Sounds to me like you have early twins and another something that didn't and isn't going to form. Were you on fertility treatments/meds? I've heard it as a common side effect to have extra things floating around as a result of te treatments.

As for the sac with two, it doesn't matter what shape, they aren't often perfectly round of oval. Good luck, I hope you have a great follow up u/s. :-)

Sorry - I'm not sure exactly what a fertilized egg becomes as it progresses to a baby.
