Does enlarged uterus mean twins?

Hi moms of multiples! Help me out please. Were any of you told you had a large uterus when you were carrying twins? I went in for my first pregnancy appointment today and was told my uterus is larger than it should be. My youngest child is almost 7, and I've had normal exams since then, so it's not the result of previous pregnancy. I'm only about 5 weeks pregnant. During the exam, she said my uterus hasn't turned blue yet. That happens by 8-9 weeks, and I had a period in late August, so my dates should be correct. My midwife says we're not doing an ultrasound yet, because they might not find a heartbeat this early, and it would be stressful. She also isn't ordering hormone levels in bloodwork, because they vary so much and I have no complications.
My midwife says a large uterus means dates are wrong, fibroids, cysts, or twins. We just ruled out the wrong dates. I have no history of fibriods, and nobody else in my family does. I've had a few suspected cysts over the years, but they've been extremely painfu. (I get really bad cramps for a few weeks and can barely walk, and they go away with my period, I've never had one ultrasounded because they will only do that if the pain continues more than one cycle.) I've had no pain this month, so I don't think it's a cyst. I was told to take extra folic acid and we'll do an ultrasound at my next checkup (2 month checkup at the end of October, I'll be 9 weeks then.)
Anyone have ideas?
