Mommy's who also have singletons...

Hi ladies. I'm completely obsessed about when I'm going to have these babies. I feel really uncertain and out of control not having a "real" due date to go by. Doc says if I go to 40 weeks, great, but that I probably won't.

SO, I was wondering...how has this pregnancy compared with your singleton pregnancy? Did you typically go early when carrying only one child, and have that mirrored with your multiple pregnancy? Did you go late with your singleton, and make it pretty far with the multiple?? Is there any correlation at all?? I know every pregnancy's different regardless of how many babies are in there, but I was just curious.

TIA!!

I had all of my singletons induced between 38 and 39 weeks because we live over an hour from the hospital I was delivering at.

I had ODD at 39 weeks 1 day. No signs of going into labor, and my induction failed. Emergency c/s was the end result. I went 38 weeks 2 days with the twins, no sign of labor, cervix still too high to even check but by u/s it was long and closed. From what I've read, twins are born before 37 weeks at a rate of 60%, the other 40% going anytime after. HTH

Single pregnancy was SO much easier. I was on bedrest at 28 weeks with mine and delivered at 35 due to pre-e...was twice as big, twice as uncomfortable, etc..

My single was your basic average pregnancy...no real complications except heartburn and morning sickness...

Yes I've read the stats. I'm fully expecting to go before 40 weeks, but I just have no idea WHEN?? Lol, I guess that's pregnancy for ya. I had no clue with my first two either, but they were pretty textbook...the first a couple days over, the second right on his due date. I also wonder if body size has anything to do with when multiple mommies will go?? My hubby says he doesn't think my body can handle the extra work/weight of twins, but I don't give much credit to that...we women are pretty superhuman when it comes to reproduction :)

Sarah, yes this pregnancy has been killer for me. I loved being pregnant with my singletons, and I couldn't wait to be preggers again. Now I understand how some people just can't enjoy it. I've also been on bedrest since 23 weeks, and I have every gosh darned side effect a person could pull out of the pregnancy books!!

Cintia, I do remember you!! I have wondered about you every once in a while. I'm SO happy to see you got your BFP!!! I hope you have a happy, healthy, fabulous 9 months :) Congratulations!

I was induced w/ my twins at 38 weeks, and was only dilated to 1 when I went in. Long labor! Then my singleton came on her own at 40w, 1d. My water broke with her, and again, was only dilated to 1 when I went to the hospital! I am optimistic that I'll make it to my goal of 40w with these babies. :)

My ob said "bigger boned" ladies tend to last longer with twins, but that being said, I have a dear friend of mine who vaginally delivered full term twins, and she's a little as they come. She was a diver (as in high dive) if that tells you how little she is..total petite size 2 (at the age of 50...a size 0 when she got pregnant with twins). So, you just never know!

Just wanted to say - isn't it annoying that your due date doesn't mean much when you're pregnant w/twins? I have a "due date" but it doesn't sound like it's very likely I'll make it to that date, so what do you say when people ask - When are you due?
Then when you're ob goes "whacko" on you and decides you should be c-sectioned in advance of his vacation when you're only gonna be just shy of 37 wks (just in case).....Ah, but that's another story!

Both of my singletons were born one week early. exactly 39 weeks. I had absolutely no complications with my twin pregnancy, and the doctor's expected me to go to 38 weeks, then have a scheduled c/s b/c baby a was breech. I was miserable and couldn't wait to be not pregnant anymore, so when I had some protein in my urine at 37 weeks, my mfm said it was fine, but my OB said he would do the c/s that day, to avoid the possibility of developing pre-e. I was happy to be done, so that's what we did. Both babies were perfectly fine--5-15 and 6-2. Oh, and I am 5'2", and couldn't believe how huge and uncomfortable I was. All my doctors felt that I would have an easy time with the twin pg b/c of my other full-term, problem free pregnancies, and they were right.
