I had a question about concieving multiples and wondering if any of you ladies had concieved twins or more by just taking extra folic acid? I've read that it can be linked to twin and multiple pregnancies if you take up to 1mg of folic acid.

Hi there and welcome. The folic acid link is a new one for me, I've never heard that. I've heard yams, I've heard age/weight/race and genetics (usually higher if you yourself are a twin, the chances don't seem to go up much when it's your grandmother's sister's niece's side. ;-)) For me, I was on my first month off the pill (mini progesterone only as I was bf'ing) and there is a minor cause/effect of the first month off the pill you're more likely to ovulate twice. Identical twins seem to be a complete fluke of nature and there really isn't any link I've read of to date.

I'm going to be 100% honest for a second. Multiple pregnancies, while truly a double blessing, are also more dangerous for mother and baby. There are higher complication rates, infant mortality rates, maternal complications, and the pregnancy itself is just plain hard. Then when they're here you have double the work, double the screaming, double the frustration. Life with multiples is no walk in the park, and between the pregnancy and their first few months, I wouldn't suggest anyone chase after becoming pregnant with multiples *just because you can* KWIM?

Back to being positive and optimistic, I'm going to go research the folic acid link. Thanks for giving me something new to look into. :-)

I've never heard of this link either. I've always taken extra folic acid but this is my first twin pregnancy (5th pregnancy).
