I've been having very strong contractions throughout the day, not at all 5 min apart so I'm not so concerned but is this normal with still 8 weeks to go? And does it just keep getting stronger as the weeks go??

I'm going to go with "not normal" and you need to call your OB. I've only had one set of painful contractions and they were PTL and I needed iv fluids to stop them.

is there a way of knowing the difference between what you are talking about, and the braxton hicks (or whatever the fake contractions are called?)
Thanks

I was told when in doubt, go to L&D. My bh weren't painful or strong, just annoying.

If they're really painful I would give your OB a call and at least let them know what's up and they may be able to tell you more if it's normal or if you need to come in. For me BH contractions are just an annoying tightening that I notice but they don't necessarily make me stop what I'm doing. I'm 33 weeks this week but for the past few weeks I've been having some contractions off and on that I actually need to stop and breathe with them while they last. They've been getting more frequent but not consistent and so far haven't changed my cervix. My OB's are aware and ask at every appointment.

Always a good idea to call your doctor. I started having contractions with pain at 27 weeks, and went in for monitoring to make sure they weren't impacting my cervix (they weren't)... my MFM wants me to come in for monitoring if I have more than 4-5 an hour and they're not getting less intense/further apart after lying down and drinking a ton of water. He also keeps saying that uterine activity with twins is typically pretty high. I wouldn't say mine are very "strong" though... maybe a 2.5 on a scale of 1-10.

I don't have any experience but I just wanted to say that I hope all is well!
