Update to New and Overwhelmed...
Wed, 02-03-2010 - 12:06pm

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the nice welcome and words of encouragement. Today I am 6 weeks + 3 days. At my ultrasound this morning, there was a large sac with a beating heart! Yay! But the second sac was showing nothing and wasn't as big. The tech said it probably wouldn't amount to anything - and I found myself feeling a little crushed. Have any of you experienced this at 6 weeks only to see an embryo in the second sad a week later?
I guess what I'm asking - should I hold onto hope for a second at this point? Don't get me wrong - one is better than none and I'm THRILLED that the one embryo looks so great! But I had my heart wrapped around two...

Thanks again for giving me a place to go to for support!!

I haven't personally, but I have heard stories of 6 week u/s's being too early to truly see what's going on. When is your next u/s? 8 or 10 weeks would be a much clearer picture.

You are in my prayers!!

My cousin had an early ultrasound, and was told at a 6 week that it was disappearing twins syndrome as one sac was empty. At the 8 week scan the second twin was there with a strong heartbeat and is doing fine.

She is due in a couple of months. I hope for your sake this is the case with you.

HI Kate,
We did clomid with our last pregnancy and began it with two tiny sacs at 6 weeks but only one had developed when we went back at 7.5 weeks. I know your hurt and frustration. With the pregnancy before that we began with identical twins and found out that one passed at 14 weeks when we went in for our 19 week u/s.
I'm not trying to be a downer, just sharing my own experiences with you.
I'm hoping for twins with our next pregnancy... :)

My six week u/s should two sacs, one with the yolk sac and fetal pole and the other with just the yolk sac. I went in a week later and we saw two sacs, one with a baby and the other was empty. It had also changed shape. We were told that the baby didn't develop and was in the process of reabsorbing.

At my 12 week u/s, there were two babies. Both very active. Did they schedule another u/s for a couple of weeks? Best of luck.

Thank you to ALL of you for responding so far. It's been so comforting. I've experienced losing a twin before - my first son had a twin. He's now two and has CP. I really hope, when I go in there this Wednesday, that we see that second baby! I"m not giving up hope.....
