The Adoption Option

Since I've seen it mentioned a lot on here lately, I just wanted to briefly share my adoption experience with anyone that is considering the option. I got pregnant at age 21 at a time when I was still in school, not yet established in my life, no place to live with a baby and did not yet have a job. I placed my son in an open adoption which meant I chose his parents and have continuing contact with them and him. He is now 20 months old and thriving with his adoptive family. While it is by no means an easy decision to make, I do not regret my choice for one second - there is nothing that makes me happier than seeing him alive and happy with his family.

I think a lot of people when they think of adoption think of it in the 'old fashion' way - that you place your child for adoption and - maybe - 18 years down the road you find them. It doesn't have to be that way - with open adoption or semi-open adoption the birthmother can choose what level of contact she is comfortable with and find a family that wants that level of contact too.

Adoption is not the right choice for everyone, but it is definitely worth considering. If you want to read more adoption stories, including my own, check out this website:
