Homework books - Why can't she remember?

Hi,

My 8 yr old 3rd grade daughter often forgets her books that she needs for homework, especially when there she has to study for a quiz or test.

Did she need to do 11 states and capitols in one night? That seems a way to get the information in short term memory but not really learning it. Did she have time to be working on them slowly-a few a night? Are they working on them in class? Same things with spelling worls. They should be working on them all week not just studying the night before. Studying for a quiz should be rereading notes or highlighted material not reading the information the first time. It sounds like there is al t of superficial memorizing happening for the sake of tests.
With the mention of bible work, I am guessing she is in private school. Possibly you want to look into other options.

Spelling words are associated with chapter they are doing in their reading series book. So they do things during the week. Issue is Liam learning issues do create blocks so we do need to work harder at home. He does get extra help in school too part of issue teacher is limited she must follow a schedule if kids need more time she is still pressured to keep to schedule district assigned and with test scores going up not down that's not changing

Yes, they review in school but just a quick review of most subjects. She had to memorize 11 states, then recite, then 10 more then recite, now all 21 that she has learned so far. She really has a lot to memorize even thought they review in school. They get a schedule each week with at least two quizzes and two tests per wk...and everything counts! Get this.....they are already doing algebra. How about that! Is that too much????
