So last year, well actually the end of the year before, there was some controversy. The exiting superintended announced we weren't going to school long enough during the day. Somehow we were short hours. Big battle between school committee and union as to what to do. They wanted to shave time from lunch vs go in early. Final desicion was they would go later. OK granted they didn't tell anyone until right before school started. Well yesterday I get post in my news feed on FB about back to school and decided to click it. Well good thing I did we are back to the OLD time for release and same old start time. So what now the day was long enough all along??? are you cutting lunch instead??? and um more importantly when were you going to inform parents. In the auto call day before school which um I don't think we got!!

wow! I would be so miffed if I found out about hour change on FB! That should have been communicated, like you said, in the auto call.
My bet is they cut lunch. Let us know when you find out.

Lunch is typically short as it is so cutting that will lead to other problems.  I've seen everything from 'shove it in fast and get to recess' to 'eat a few quick bite- dump the rest' to clearly hungry kids being pushed by the lunch teacher to 'hurry it up'.

Maybe the last guy couldn't calculate time?

I'd love to see our school go a half-hour longer just so the kids could get a proper lunch and recess.

Well since I have no clue how long lunch was before I may never know. We have back to school night end of the month but going to assume teacher won't know more then us as to why and the admins don't take questions during their talks.

This year DS has recess right before dismissal which I think sucks. No break up of the day other then lunch...

Well I have an answer to the hour change...um well sort of?!?!? Here is the Mayor/Superintenants response in a online chart of school issues:

"There was a side letter upon the new Superintendent's arrival pushing the F and B later in the day by 15 minutes which was in discussions with the Union. The Superintendent agreed to a one-year trial of bringing the minutes back by 15 minutes as it was two years ago."

OK so its a trial run going back to the old times but um again what about the fact we were going 15 min later because we were short on total hours?!?!? Now to mayor and superintendents' benefit neither were in their positions when this "discoverey" was made but wondering if in the discussion of this trial run were the missing hours ever addressed?!?!?
