This story is just heartbreaking and a good reminder to constantly talk to our children about bullying. This little girl was in 5th grade.
Bullying Causes a 10-Year-Old Girl to Commit Suicide

My twin nieces were in her class.
Did you see the look on the mom's face when Dr. Saltz said that parents should ask their children if they've ever thought about suicide? She said parents are afraid that they'll give the child an idea they hadn't thought of, so they don't say anything at all, but that it's okay to ask. Wow, the mother had this deer-in-the-headlights look like "OMG I never thought of that. I could have prevented this?" I felt so bad for her. I don't know that I would think to ask something like that either. I mean, who does think to ask a 10 year old that?
Not saying it is the case in this story, but I hear too many parents say that the kid "needs to tough it out, learn how to deal with it, it is good preparation for adult life." (Usually as a response to parents who decide to homeschool because of bullying.) It isn't preparation for adult life, except to learn how to be a victim. Kids don't know how to deal, and adults with jobs with bullies can change jobs. Kids can't change schools or classes without parent help.
It really sounds like the teachers fell down big time on this one. I hope they get them some good training. There are good anti-bullying programs out there, this school needed it yesterday.
