How is everyone doing, and how are the little ones?  When does your holiday break start and how long is it?  Are they doing special things at school for the holidays?

Emma told me yesterday morning they watched Happy Feet in class, or in someone else's class, so I am not sure if they did some switching of classes, I know she came home with a papersack envelope last week with different "stamps" for different cultural holiday activities they did and learned about from different classrooms which I thought was interesting.

We are planning a trip up to Michigan for the holidays, my oldest goes off to college next year and we don't have any relatives that live near us, we live in Texas and all the relatives are in Michigan.  My DH was originally planning on leaving after Emma got out of school on the 20th and heading up with both little girls while ODD and I followed either Friday evening or Saturday depending on the Varsity Football play off game (she's a cheerleader), but he mentioned last night that he was thinking of heading up to Michigan this weekend and taking the girls with him.  I told him no, Emma has all next week of school next week.  He's not "hot" on public education and seems to think that "its kindergarten, its no big deal and its not like they are going to be doing anything next week anyways".  Well, yes or no, they have a party planned, a holiday concert they have been preparing for, etc. and its kindergarten, so she is super excited about all of this.  Second, they are out from Dec. 20th to Jan. 7th, so if he pulls her out for an extra week, that means she has 3 entire weeks off of school.  I already have to get and pay for her daycare for Dec. 31, Jan. 2-4 while I am back and work and he is still up in Michigan visiting with his son, I don't feel that she needs 3 weeks out of school especially since she has struggled socially this year and she is finally really liking school.  I'm not looking forward to a 20 hour drive with a 17 year old, 3 and 5 year old either if he ends up going up early and without them, but I "think" its better than her being out of school for 3 weeks.

I'm not sure what M. is doing in school (2nd grade) re: impending holidays. We had friends over for latkes and candle lighting earlier this week, and our apt. building had a kids' Chanukah party on Monday night.  We'll be going overnight to my SIL's family in metro Philly  burbs for more Chanukah festivities this coming weekend.

My little one starts vacation on friday, his day care closes for 2 weeks at xmas and my older one gets out at 11am next friday thats if DH even wants to send him because  by the time you get home its time to get back there and then its a mad house because the entire school all 900+ get out at same time and its not like they do anything that day and this way they can all sleep as late as they want. They both go back on the Jan 2nd

As for school they don't really do holidays. we aren't allowed to have parties of any kind in the class (many reasons including no flexiablity in schedule, no sweets allowed in school, no drinks allowed in class rooms and food allergies) Kind of boring, even though I don't celebrate xmas its still nice to have some down time but it it was it is and at least some of the discrimination I faced as a kid my kids be able to avoid.
