I know I've been a little quiet around here lately.

We got 'testing week tips' in the weekly newsletter from DS's teacher this week. I am like 'stink!' b/c I hate testing and those tips mean its coming up.

I messed up swim dates when I said okay to soccer. I thought the two would only have a 2 week overlap. I can be flexible with assignments and sleeping in. I think he'll be fine, but it's going to be a lot on me. DH will help out as his schedule allows too. I'm anxious to get the soccer schedule. I don't like this signing up even though you don't know when practices are.
Soccer is going to be his first team sport in years. He's excited. I hope the boys are nice to a beginner. I'm worried about the coaches not being accustomed to a beginner at this age also.

Soccer, karate and swim will overlap for 6 weeks.

Wow - at least you have some flexibility with homeschooling, but that's a lot! We finished indoor soccer yesterday. I asked ds9 if he would miss it, and he just looked at me and said, "well, I still have my soccer skills class once a week, and outdoor starts in two weeks, so....."

We're good, after two long (but fun) weekends away. First, I spent a weekend with dd19 at her college five hours away. This weekend, we were a few hours away at my MIL's 70th. Last night, ds11 and his youth group visited a "Child City" called Mooseheart, which is like an orphanage. Definitely gives them some perspective.

Standardized testing in IL starts this week. UGH! It's not so much the testing itself, it's just the crazy emphasis they place on it- the "rah rah," over-the-top craziness. Luckily, it doesn't count at all for ds11. For ds9, this actually affects his middle school placement (he's in 4th grade, but 5th grade ISATs don't come back soon enough to be used for middle school decisions). All the teachers and administrators are in a frenzy....

LOL, I look like that Garfield pic today!

All three of my kids are home sick today and I think I'm starting to come down with it too. As much as I hate orange flavor, I'm about to down the last package of Emergen-C I found in our cupboard in a last-ditch effort.
