So they had this new blurb in the local paper about a city wide literacy launch where they want kindergarten through 2nd graders reading one million words by June and talking about mobile apps and books but nothing as to how will these kids access these. Will you be providing mobile devices?? What about families that don't have access aren't you just pushing these kids further behind if you are not supplying the access? Nothing like a vague puff peice but as a parent of kid in that age range with a school taking part would be nice to know but school has no clue. News to them and since its a month into school and we just found out they are out of paper (catholic school) guessing if they need to fund something not happening and since I am already paying $1000 a month I certaintly am not...

I guess they are doing it with a non profit both schools now have the same vague city press release. Even looked on the non profits site. If you expect us to buy our own ereader or ipad hope you plan on waiving a month's tuition :) Guess we will learn more when the schools know. Sure if any are provided they are figuring out how it will be disbursed. Its for grades k-2 in the whole public school plus the catholic and charter school in the city. Thats LOT of kids and since each public school is a title 1 school but ours and the charter school are not, I am guess we get last shot at any donated devices...

It is good in theory.  It sounds like the city launched a program, but its completely seperate from the school system.  If it was something that was coordinated then the school would have sent something home also about it and some sort of explanation.  It maybe something where they are doing more things at the library targeted towards that age group, etc.
