I don't blame you Sherrilee. I have told one of Nathaniel's past teachers that after school hours he belongs to me and even during school hours he is still mine so anything going on with him will always be run by me.

I'm glad it's not legal! It just seems really creepy to me. I'd not let my child friend his teacher -- he doesn't need to be their friend, he is their student and doesn't need to see all the stuff the teacher does outside of school. I would go even further that I bet some teachers would use information about the student, from his fb, against him. I know a teacher of my son a while back saw him get sassy with me in public once, outside of school, and she brought it up at school and disciplined him for it. (We handled that in about two seconds.) Too much potential for abuse with this.

I saw on our local news tonight that they have actually passed a law about this in Missouri.

I think it would be okay only if it was a private page for students and parents where it was about the classroom things only. IMO, students and parents don't need to know what happens in the teachers private lives.

private blogs are great IMO for stuff like this. My sister teaches 4th grade and I set up a private blog for her classroom. I disabled comments, made it private, parents can follow or subscribe via email. She is also having the children blog on it as a daily job someone posts the homework for the night.

No, unless the facebook page is only related to school and homework and then the friendships are "unfriended' at the end of the school year. But personal facebook pages, and absolute no!

I would need to know a bit more about how FB works. I have an account and use it some, but I wouldn't want my kids to have access to what the teacher did over the weekend. Personally, I don't want my kids on FB. Email is fine by me.

I'm fine if it is a teacher themed facebook page - not a personal page.

I don't know why a teacher would chose to be a personal friend with a student and ok them on their facebook page.
