The Olympics?  Kolby is kind of excited about the upcoming Olympics and keeps asking me when they start.  Personally, I enjoy the Winter Olympics more, but I think we'll tune in occasionally.  What about you?  Are you kids interested in them?

As much as we can.  What I'd really love to see are the paraolympics, but they don't broadcast those (WHY?!?!).

I think some of the sports channels do have features about particular paraolympians and events.  Also, I'll bet there are a lot of events in the Paraolympics on YouTube, etc.

Absolutely!  Malachi got into gymnastics at 2.5 because of watching the Beijing Games with us.  Maybe he'll be inspired to go back (he quit b/c there were no other boys left where he was going, and he was self-conscious among all the girls).

I'm sure we'll see some of it. My sister is heading to London today (her husband is a native) and they were able to get tickets to three events (they won't be seeing any gold medals awarded - they've got early events - but at least they were able to get into some that she wanted to see). I always feel torn, because in many ways I think gymnastics is terrible, but it is amazing to watch!

we are olympic nerds so much so we watched the trials too. Liam has been counting down the days (its on the TV if you have a NBC channel on so that got him started) but since DH works for cable we have ALL the channels including the olympic soccer and basketball channels so mustly looking for to 2 weeks of not having to worry about there being nothing we can all agree on on TV :smileyhappy:

I have been trying to figure out, Heidi, what are all the channels broadcasting. Can you help? I find myself up too late at night watching now.

First a vent, if you are going to have a channel SOLELY for basketball and soccer is there a reason why on a day when other events are happening you have it airing on those channels AND regular NBC channels!!! Ok maybe not everyone has ALL the channels but was annoying this weekend channels were showing the SAME stuff. Anyway its NBC networks, so NBC, then MSNBC, NBC sports and Bravo. There was another one too, I think it’s a regular news type one. The mainstream stuff, swimming, diving, gymnastics all seem to be solely on the regular NBC; which seeing as ALL the events are taped I’m a bit peeved at the order they show them. Gymnastics was on late Sunday. I don’t have girls but I’m going to guess if I did they would probably be VERY interested but even if we didn’t have to get up early for camp it would be hard to stay awake until after 10pm. Yet at peak family hour they are playing beach volleyball (OK disclaimer I HATE volleyball…Jr high trama ) Bravo seems to just have tennis and the other channel I can’t remember was playing boxing.

I will say I was SHOCKED Liam watched almost ALL of the opening ceremonies. He fell asleep before the torch, but he was glued and for my ADHD kid that’s AMAZING. He has been watching most nights with us. A big fan of the swimming and the diving, plus they are doing mock Olympics at camp so since they did handball and waterpolo he wanted to watch those.

My little one has ZERO interest. Tried to get him to watch diving and gymnastics he LOVES jumping in pool and is always trying to stand on his head but he wont even come in. Friday starts trampoline, if that doesn’t get his attention NOTHING will J

I can see that being very annoying! There are enough events going on that they don't have to dually broadcast anything, I would think.
The men's gymnastics was on pretty late last night as well. It would seem that the most popular sports, they would air earlier. Maybe, it's a way to keep viewers. idk. The men's swimming trials were on late last night too. I know it was only the qualifiers, but I like watching Michael Phelps swim.

We didn't make it through all of the opening ceremony. We watched until the parade of nations, then switched. lol. Then, I guess, I picked up around the T's, so I got to see the USA, Paul Mc Cartney and lighting the torch. :smileyhappy:

I'm very surprised that even Riley has been watching. In fact, we're watching volleyball right now.

Thanks for the info on the channels. I have no idea which ones I have. Off to look at the guide. :smileywink:

Go to:  http://www.nbcolympics.com/get-local/tvlistings.html

Fill in the details and it'll tell you what channels you get and what is being shown on each.
