I hadn't thought about it until reading this article, but the ads (not to mention the halftime show) do get more and more risque every year! There are some good, educational ideas here for more mature kids. For others, changing the channel might be best.

to be honest I don't think the comercials are any provactive then the shots of the cheerleaders coming in and out of a commercial during any given game. We usually DVR the superbowl especially when our team plays. Dh tends to pause or rewind it gets annoying I can't stand being behind so then I sit with the smart phone which drives him batty because then I know the score. yes we are a very entertaining house come superbowl time. So we don't always watch the commercials when they first air. If we get behind and have to catch up he will usually go back to see the commericals later and usually do skip the half time show to spare ourselves (think the worse was the WHO). I wait anything good gets replayed over and over on news and on line.

The kids generally never make it through the whole game, last time we were in the big game Liam was 4 1/2 we saw it at a friends house he was busy playing, we do watch it every year regardless but the kids tend to do something else. This year Liam is excited about the patriots being in it. Kid sat in the living room cluless throw most of the AFC championship game sees the miss kick and is talking like he saw the WHOLE thing. If he stays into it he will watch with us, if not it will be like any given Sunday in our house. Mom and dad glued to the game the kids in for the food then off to play.

Honestly, it's never been any worse than what they would normally see.
