We finally got M's full neuropsychological assessment report back, and it's clear why he's driving his teachers crazy.  The developmental and functional level differences between his areas of strength and areas of weakness are the size of the Grand Canyon.  For example, he tested as grade 12.9 for reading comprehension (he just turned 7), grade 4 for math, and barely kindergarten level for writing ability.  His executive functioning is a hot mess, as are his fine motor skills.  Hopefully, we'll be able to get something sorted out with schooling using the new diagnoses as a tool: Aspberger's and Developmental Coordination Disorder.  Wish us luck, I'm already sick of the Dept. of Ed.

We're still in the long, torturous process of doing the bureaucratic dance to try to get a placement in either a specialized program or a private school.  He's now supposed to have an aide for the interim, but she hasn't been showing up consistently (they didn't even tell us when she was out for jury duty, no sub, it got really crazy that week).  I'd homeschool in a heartbeat if I had the economic possibility of SAH.

Developmental coordination disorder is basically motor skills that are delayed/poor for age and significantly behind development in other areas, without obvious physical cause.  In M's case, it's fine motor.

WOW!

I'm glad you are getting all this information and can figure out how to help M.  It's been a wild ride for him.

What is developmental coordination disorder?
