DS is promoting to 6th grade which is middle school in our area. They have a little ceremony in the morning day before school lets out. The grandparents are coming. We'll do the cookies and punch reception at the school and that will be that.

All three are moving up - oldest from college, middle from HS and the youngest is on to HS. Quite a year of changes in our house.

Congrats to your ds. Hope middle school is good for him.

Our ds11 will be starting middle school in the fall-not a very epic year for us, lol... A few years back we had ds9 starting kindy and dd20 starting college at the same time. That felt eventful!

We aren't big on celebrations - even for HS graduations we just had a small celebration with immediate family, grandparents, etc...

congrats for all the graduations and promotions! Exciting times!

We had our BIG transition last summer when both girls went from elementary to secondary school (called high school here, but it's grades 7-12). We didn't throw them a party, but they did do a fare well musical in their old school on the last day, with a party afterwards in the theatre lobby for all the graduated kids and parents and teachers. That was fun.

Kind of weird here. Dd17 is not really graduating (she's in Grade 11, though she's finisehd almost all of Grade 12), but she won't really graduate next year either as she won't be here to celebrate the awarding of her diploma, she is sort of an unschooler, but has been registered in school for three years doing independent study stuff for the most part, she's is moving away from home in the fall, but is sort of moving away in 2 weeks (for the summer, will be back only for a family reunion for 10 days in August). So there's no clear point of passage for her. It's all kind of a jumble.

My twins will be moving up to high school. Although there is a ceremony, it really is not too exciting as the same kids in middle school just move to a different school, such is life in a small town. Just have to get my mind around the fact that they are in high school.

I think I am more excited about my 3 yr old starting preschool in the fall. She is quite a live wire and will do well in a preschool class.
