For those that celebrate, what are your kids dressing as? Any fun plans in the works? Do you make any special goodies?

One year when we lived in Salem, Mass, we waited too long to get our pumpkin and everyone was out of them. (Halloween is a huge deal there.)

We love Halloween and usually go trick or treating with friends around our neighborhood, then hold a neighborhood bonfire and roast hot dogs and marshmallows.

I think only one of mine will go...dd13. She usually makes her own costume because I procrastinate when asked for help. I have no idea what she'll be, because she will be in San Francisco with her aunt(s) until the 29th. dd17 and I did purchase two pumpkins today, although dd17 discovered last year that she prefers carving a watermelon. If watermelons are in short supply, well, we have enough pumpkins for both to indulge their sometimes creepy imaginations. There are six trick or treaters this year...they and their parents(many in costume) and siblings all go around in a mob to only the neighbors that want to be visited. A couple of years ago we had some bottles of Corona that had been around for a while...the parents got beers and the kids got chocolate and apples.

Ds15 says that, if anything, he will go as Steve Jobs. He has the black turtleneck, jeans and belt. Done. I think he's kidding. He's not really into Hallowe'en.

Dd12 is going as a tree spirit. She's making wings of green and yellow rhododendron leaves which she has waxed to preserve and will sew together. Not sure what else she's got figured out.

Dd8 is going as a housefly. Milk jug wings, goggles and a proboscis. She's busy with milk jugs, scissors and a stapler, and has the goggles done already. Dd12 is helping her a bit.

I'm not really much into Hallowe'en, so I'm thankful they pretty much handle it on their own.

DD 14 is dressing up as "Meg" from Disney's Hercules. It's a theme thing with her friends. They are all going as different leading ladies from Disney animated movies. We found a great dress at Goodwill for 8 dollars and we made some alterations to make it look just like the movie dress. They are dressing up to school (which is a huge deal at the performing arts school) and I think they are planning on trick-or-treating together.
