It doesn't deal with gifted education but education in general. "Waiting for Superman" is both depressing and inspiring.... depressing in the options available to many kids, inspiring in the few schools who have managed to turn things around. Anyone interested in education may enjoy this piece.

I thought it was excellent. We got it at our local library and I made ds11 and ds9 watch it with me. I think it's important that they understand the value of their education. We may complain about this or that with the local schools, but compared to many, the boys are SO lucky!

I felt the same way. We've always been so fortunate to get into any school we wanted.... and our back-up schools were never so bad. DD moved into the city district last year and while she's at a magnet, the quality of teachers is much lower than we are accustomed. It really makes a tremendous difference.

Personally, I've been angry with the teacher's union for years and this documentary really explained my reasonings well.

That really was a great film! We just watched another one that is similar called The Lottery. (http://thelotteryfilm.com/) It follows several families from Harlem and the Bronx who are desperately trying to get out of the public school system and into a charter school. It's heartbreaking and eye opening.
