Hello! My name is Abbey and my daughter, Hannah is going into 4th grade. We are a military family who moves every few years and I've found it challenging to get Hannah in the classes she needs to be in every time we move, even with documents and such to prove she should be placed in certain classes.

We've had very good experiences with combo classes but much depends on how those classes are formed. In our little district, kids placed in combo classes are the most independant workers from both grades.

My daughter was in a combo for 1st. It was 1/2, and though my daughter was advanced, she couldn't do the 2nd grade work, and was ahead of the other 1st graders. The teacher did sort it out, and kept her active, but told me not to expect that level of teaching every year. The next year we began home schooling because they wanted her in another combo class (made up of left overs.) This is not how multi-age is supposed to work - where each is doing its own thing. Should be more combined and floaty to the needs of the kids.
Because you are moving around so much, have you thought of doing school at home? K12 is a virtual school, some online, some off, with parents doing the teaching/leading. It is very high quality and would probably be appropriately challenging for your daughter without having to change every time you move. I have heard a fair number of military families who like it. Anyhow, something to keep in the back of your mind if the school doesn't work out.
