When do you guys start weeding through books... or do you
I try to weed through them every now and then, but never get more than about 5 out of the house, LOL! Of course we're saving a lot of things for the youngest DD, so that's a nice excuse not to have to get rid of anything yet....
We still have books that dd20 read... because we're saving them for ds9! So, with four kids spread out, we don't tend to get rid of lots of books until we've had them about ten years, lol. Even the so-called "girl" books get read - ds10 read books like "The Little Princess" and "The Secret Garden."
We do donate as we weed, though - usually to a bus program that visits the inner city and gives food, medical care and books out to those who need it.

We started weeding about 2 years ago with the toddler and early reader sorts of books. I also managed to get rid of all the "second tier" picture books... you know the ones you have that added some variety to the younger years but aren't great stories. I got rid of a lot of the horse novels that DD read because DS has no interest what-so-ever. There are some we'll be keeping long after the kids leave the house like some favored picture books and some series.
We give all our books to the kid's youth theatre that sell them outside during shows. They make thousands a year at 50 cents a book. Of course, it tends to backfire... I drop off our donations and come home with a bunch of new books for us lol.
Oh this brings back memories.
This is so timely for us.
At the end of the school year I go through all bookcases.
