I never really took them that seriously but they are all the rage at DD's high school. You see kids playing them on campus all the time. I got DH a Soprano for Christmas and my parents got DD a Tenor and DS a Concert. We can't keep our hands off of them lol. What fun little instruments, quite easy to play (on a basic chord level... I've seen people do amazing things with them which obviously, is not easy), good accompianment for vocals and nice and portable for car rides, long waits, ect.

Any other Uke players here?

Color me green! We've enjoyed some youtube videos of uke virtuosoJake Shimabukuro. One of our bicycling guests had a Fluke...I could see the appeal...I'd like one. We've played mandolin in the car and waiting for planes, etc. Our newest family instruments are a banjo I bought and a classical guitar given by a friend.

DH and I play guitar and DD noodles on the mandolin (which shares fingering with the violin so fun for her to have something a little different.) We haven't ventured into banjo territory but DH and I both grew up around them. We love to hear Steve Martin play lol.
