QOTW Holidays modus?

How does your gifted child react to holiday breaks from school? Resting up, playing, hanging out, or working on all those things for which there's never much time during school weeks? Does he/she keep practicing for extracurricular activities? Catch up on reading? Or is it time to do nothing, be bored, get creative etc? And for the kids that don't go to school: do they have certain periods of less/more activity around the holidays?

Depends really. Sort of a little of all you mentioned. Some breaks involve

This break, DS 10 has been working on a project for school and really into it. He's been composing a piano piece. He had 1 brush-up rehearsal but otherwise, plans to spend the break playing wii and watching several weeks worth of Clone Wars which he never has time for during the school year.

DD 13 just finished a show and so has spent this week in her jammies staying up super late chatting with her "no we aren't dating but we've been inseperable for 6 months" best friend. She's also been sleeping in until noon. Next week, she has social plans everyday. She's also in the casting process for the play she's producing/directing.

Nathaniel spends most of his break time either outside playing with the dogs, sticks, mud rocks and his trampoline or inside painting and doing crafts. This week he made a Nativity Scene from clay, painted the figures and then got BIL to help him cut a stable with wood scraps and painted it too.

DS is sick... not a fun way to spend break. Right now lots of quiet time and resting. He really wants to get out and play in the snow that fell last night, so hopefully he's better (or well enough) to do that soon.
