Tuesday Homeschool Recess 4/2

Hey moms and grandmas, come on out and play.  It's recess time!

Another sunshiny day, and the wind isn't blowing so maybe it will be warmer.  Yesterday was winter...including some snow.  Ha ha April Fool's.  Now that we got that over with, we're back to your regularly scheduled spring Wink

The happy wanderers made it to somewhere in MO.  They did about 450 miles, and still managed to be tourists.  Poppa was actually going to take them to Six Flags (Whaaaaaaat?????  He never took me to an amusement park when I was a kid!!!!!) but it wasn't open, so they went to Meramac Caverns instead.  DD said the cave was very cool and she took about 200 pics.  I'm actually not sure where they ended up for the night...somewhere in MO, obviously.  Today it's on into OK and the Texas panhandle.  (Sullivan, MO...that's where they stayed...LOL.)

I got a bunch done last night after work...changed the bathroom decor from snowman to lighthouse, unclogged drains, took out trash, and then drank a smoothie that I didn't have to share, and found a crocheted owl pattern so I can make it for dd while she's gone.  And watched TV.  I know.  Yes, me.  Vegged and watched TV.  And then read and listened to Pandora.  I would like relaxing evenings of loafing like that if they happened more often.  Probably by 4/14 I will be tired of all the relaxation, LOL.

We enjoyed Meramac Caverns- a bit touristy but some pretty formations.  Gald they're having fun on the drive.

This morning has been full of unhappy tween emotions.  Excited famliy members have been calling for news and to hear about the competition and he is not ready to talk and is being rude.  I wish he could realize how amazing it is to have family interested and rooting for him.   It's hard to see him so disappointed and to know he has to just feel it to deal with it.

About to start school. He's got some history reading to do and take notes on, along with notes to take on his lit group book, and a math lesson before lunch.  After lunch, he is off to a friend's house for the afternoon.  Tonight he plans to work on a lapbook project his replica cartridge case.

I'm going grocery shopping and birthday shopping for DH.  Unless, DH decides to go to the grocery store with me.

DD messaged me at lunchtime (in Joplin, MO) and was very excited because she left a bunch of Project HOPE sticky notes at the hotel they'd stayed in last night, and someone found one and started following her blog.  Makes her feel like she's making a difference, even on the road.  They're somewhere in OK and it's raining now.  They had snow in MO this morning, too.  Meanwhile...back on the ranch...it's sunny Cool  And windy.  And the spring wild fire season has officially started...local volunteer fire departments are currently fighting two fires.

Zeph's attitdue turned for the better about noon.  He had a great time with his friend and they were outdoors most of the afternoon.  I made a  celebratory dinner of meatloaf and mac & cheese with mixed veggies (can you get more Midwest than that?) per Zeph's request.

He decided that he wants to go and I'm glad he realized that if he didn't, he might always wonder what might have happened.   In Atlanta, we'll spend half a day at MLK Historic Site and a day at the bee.  I think we'll spend a couple days in Nashville on the drive down and visit the Hermitage and the TN Military Museum. On the way home, we'll stop at the Chickamaugua Battle Field Park. A history filled trip for the history boy!

I'm glad he decided to go.  You're right...he'd always wonder "what if" if he didn't.  It'll be a fun trip, with a cool contest thrown in too!
