Tuesday Homeschool Recess 5/7

Hey moms and grandmas, come on out and play.  It's recess time!

My get up and go got up and went, I think.  I'm not feeling very motivated this morning.  Well, motivated to sit in a snuggly spot and read, but that's about it, LOL.  Alas, life...and things to do...keep right on keeping on, so sitting won't have a very prominent part of today's agenda.

DD has a doctor's appointment this morning, and driver's ed this afternoon.  DS and I are going to check out the filming of an episode of a new Food Network show, Mall Food Court Wars, and see if any of the free food being offered to sample is vegetarian.  And somewhere in there, we need to sandwich some school activities.  No rest for the weary.  At least there are leftovers galore for supper, so I don't have to cook, LOL.

I have not been able to do big batch cooking for leftovers galore. I dislike that a lot! It is so nice to open the fridge and still have a pasta salad or whatever because you made a big batch! I really miss standing and moving a lot in the kitchen. I will just have to face it, I am a chronic Kitchen Elf, and without the magic found in playing in the kitchen I am a very sad Elfkin. My mini-elf is doing better at all on her own stuff. I taught her a few new do it yourself easy menu items, she is cracking eggs like a pro now! Ten and in control of her own egg mcmuffin magic! They grow up so fast!

We have to go to the pool today so I can torture myself in the water, so my knee will get stronger. It is fun in the water, it is not fun after you get out of the water. Yet, I see people riding bikes, and doing all kinds of fun that requires knee stamina and I am so jealous! I want knee stamina dang it, and I want it NOW....NO....yesterday! I hate healing and waiting, and watching others who are healthy do everything they want, when I can not!

Plus home student work, taxi jobs and whatever else comes up. I am enjoying reading aloud again and not forgetting completly what I read, due to pain. So that is great, must mean I am a bit more healed, a bit less pain, right? I hope so. The grass is green again and the May snow mostly melted, maybe hope those tulips pop up soon, tulips emerging from the ground, would make me feel so much better. Piano tonight...rest, probably not much but I will keep trying! I am drinking wheat grass....this has got to STOP!

I bet my allergy issues are the freaking wheat grass....so heals one thing and aggravates another, I miss my own individualized health smoothie drinks, not this pre-made and with weird greens stuff. Some of the premade drinks taste like crap, I can not believe people buy it, the one at Trader Joes is tolerable, but not how I would make it myself, if I could stand around blending and washing blenders! I'm impressed she can do her own eggs.  I still can't make a decent over easy egg or a mom Mcmuffin!

I'm going to start off with a brag.  Zeph was amazing last night at the showcase!  He was engaging and interacted  with the viewers.  He drew them in, answered questions and his enthusiasm was contagious.  Some of the kids just sat there and  answered questions in a monotone simple sentences.  He had a crowd at his table almost all night.  The librarian invited him to join TAG (teen advisory group).  Sadly we are not residents of this library system, but I use it as our main library as a recipricol borrorrower.  The group looks interesting and I am going to talk to her further.  if I pay for a non-resident card, I think he can join.   It looks like a good transcript builder,  service hours, and the librarians would be awesome references:)

It's been a stressful morning since DH and I are not communicating well.  I have gotten a lot accomplished though.  Zeph is finishing the last segment of a WWII documentary.  Then he's going out to mow the back yard while I do some weeding and soak up some vitamin D!

Today I spent about four hours working....two in the morning and two in the afternoon. At first I thought all of the work would be wasted, mine and others', because when we got the motherboard with the 19 new capacitors (installed by one of the guys in the electronics shop with a lot of difficulty because it's a multilayer board, manufactured robotically with a weird kind of solder that behaves differently from hand done solder)...anyway, when we got the motherboard and all of the parts installed in the computer and turned it on, it refused to go through its boot sequence and beeped annoyingly...the same problem as before, a memory error. And now one of the CPU fans didn't work either. So...a new fan was jerry rigged, a bad memory module found...after hours of messing around, I was able to log in for the first time in over a month. So a couple of small purchases and I will be back in business for that project at least...I had been slinking around furtively in case anyone saw me and was reminded to ask how the project (the part of it I promised to someone!) is going. And yesterday a power supply showed up in the mail (months late) for another computer...things are looking up. I hope. Also I got a little exercise in: dh and I walked to work this morning and then I walked home, thinking that dd19 was going to school to do her solar print, but as she is too sick and has to work tonight, we decided to do that on Thursday. Then I didn't have to fix dh's lunch because he had been gifted with some extra spicy Korean ramen type stuff that he added broccoli and cheese to...then he took me to work on his motorcycle. I wear a bike helmet...probably not the safest thing, but the motorcycle is tiny (249cc's) and can hardly make it up the hill with both of us on it, so there's not much likelihood of a high speed crash. Then I walked home, in a lot better mood than this morning, when it looked like a) I had wasted a lot of time and b) looked silly besides. So now I am home and snacked and dd15 has homed in on me with the newest Temeraire novel that just came out in paperback, for me to read to her. Tomorrow we are going to town because dd19 is going to spend the day painting a gallery wall. I'm hoping to load up the back of the car with recycling, getting that garage usable a little bit at a time. Deborah

Well the mowing did not go well.  Zeph has mowed once or twice before but this yard is tricky and DH was micromanaging him to the point Zeph quit.  DH hates to mow and I thought by midsummer Zeph could take it over completely, but now I think it is up to DH.

Instead,  I had Zeph turn over the flower bed that runs the length of the house. The soil was hard!  While he was working on that, I got out the shears and worked on cutting back a large shrub.  It was therapeutic and I did a good job.  Then we went and bought 6 large bags of soil. He loaded, unloaded, carried them to the bed, emptied them and spread them.   He and I also went out and shopped for hanging baskets.  I bought one smaller basket for the front of the house and the large one I fell in love with, someone bought as I was considereing it. It was $60 which sees alot of a hanging basket.   The nursery said they would have more next week of that same type. I'll go back and get one then.  Interesting how the moment I couldn't have it I decided I had to have it.

I surprised my woker bee with a trip to Starbucks for a lemonade (passion tea for me) and they were out of lemonade!  He had his first mocha decaf frappachino.  He felt so grown up.  It was really cute.

The biggest thing Zeph and I accompllshed was that we worked on the garage.  We cleaned out his outside toys and organzied them.  This meant going through containers and sorting through rocks and other nature  collectibles.  He dumped stinky bags of seas shells from our trip to the ocean into the water table in hopes that they would destink-they did.  They dried on the deck over night.  We eliminated a shelving unit and storage bin and an organizer as we reorganized and sorte through stuff.   I also cleaned out a ton of junk the ILs had left on the garage shelves and wiped down the shelves.  We went through 2 packing boxes and got that stuff cleaned up and put away in the house.

As far as DH, normally we communicate pretty well, but it breakss down once in a while.  I think it is that way in any relationship.  After his micromanaging with the lawn mower, I knew something was up.  Turns out he was stressed because he had yet to get the official word on his new position and pay and other employees seemed to know more than he did.  Afte he talked to his boss yesterday and got the details his mood improved drastically.

If we ever met and there is a kitchen, I can show you some techniques to make egg making magic so much easier. You need to know what to look for, it is a very visual and kinesthetic type skill. No one has taught you that's all...I know you could do it, if given good education! OR...My 10 year old can make one for you! H.

DS claims I make the best scrambled eggs and DH makes the best sunnyside up eggs so we've got it covered:)
