I am finding that my DD 23 who I have a great relationship with is so busy with work and girlfriends that she doesn't call me that much.

I don't talk to my dd25 very often. Sometimes once a week, usually more like every 10 days, but sometimes its longer. Rarely any texts or emails in between unless there is a specific question. When she's sick or having problems I do tend to hear from her more often but that's not very often. I know that she is busy with work and friends and life in general. Sometimes I wish that we talked more often but I accept that its just the way it is at this phase of her life...when I was that age I didn't talk to my mom very often either but I think she knew that I loved her. Later when I was more settled, and especially after I became a mom, we spoke more often and became closer.

Feel free to vent, hope it made you feel better!

When I was away in grad school, I always called home on Sundays before the day got going much. Sometimes I'd call during the week but not consistently. Once I then moved permanently away (300 miles), I called 2x/week, and usually did Sunday when I had my mound of ironing - that worked out great! (then when my parents passed, it was depressing for a while to iron!)

DS18 is away at college (albeit 7 miles away!) - I text him with random stuff, getting a response about 10% of the time (as I'd expect). He sometimes visits for an hour a weekend, sometimes more, sometimes not at all. He's busy. I was busy when I finished school for a few years before I met dh (going for a 2nd masters while working FT). Once I got married and more settled, a regular call routine was easier to keep. I wish my parents had been up for emailing (never had a computer/internet); I would've kept in more touch...sigh. Believe me, it was NOT that I didn't want to keep in touch - life just sometimes got in the way!

My DD (senior in college) has been back in school for a week from spring break and I haven't talked to her at all yet!

thanks everyone, great responses, sounds like everything is normal in my relationship.

BTW, she called last night, once from grocery store to check with me and then again after she got home!

Glad you heard from her. The first year dd was at boarding school we talked every day and she came home every other weekend (150mi/rt). The next year we still talked every day but she only came home once a month. This yr (senior) we Facebook more than we talk but calls still happen 2-3 times a week. Visits have been rare, just holidays and then for the last school vacation (Feb) she went to Spain so I only say her to drop her at the airport :-( She'll be home for a couple of days for spring break next weekend but then is headed to NYC to do an overnight at the college she wants to attend and then will be home for 2 days before heading back to school. She does work and play sports in addition to it being her senior year, but I do miss her... I guess it's good practice for college!
