I also know how you feel, both of my kids live far away. I try to think of it as travel opportunities for dh and myself! You do get used to it. Skype or gmail video chat helps so you can see her sometimes, even if its a distorted view.

If she is happy in Baltimore then it will probably get easier for you quickly--knowing that they are doing well puts our minds at ease.

Meanwhile feel free to lean on our virtual shoulders here.

If she has a big enough oven, "beer-butt" chicken is an EASY, delicious way to cook a whole chicken. Be sure to tell her to take the bag of giblets out, first!!! BTW, a can of ginger ale works just as good as the beer.

How nice you will get to see her so soon! Actually, $100 for a round trip flight sounds great to me - San Francisco to Portland can be around $300 or more. I miss my dd but I've adjusted, just like I did when she went to college. And hopefully, between her coming here and me/us going there, we'll still get to see her several times a year. Do you skype or do webcam? Or have the new iPhone? Dd and I now have the iPhone 4S and can do face-to-face chat. I love it! :-)
