My DS & DD are coming home for Thanksgiving - they will be arriving Tuesday Evening & Leaving Friday morning ( DS has to work) anyway... because they won't be home for Christmas we decided we'd give them thier Xmas gifts when they come (and yes I will have them open them) So I asked DS what he needed - I have some ideas for DD- so my son tells me the one thing I NEVER thought I'd hear him needing or using: an iron!!! and Ironing board!!! - Ha Ha- he needs to do his dress shirts for work so he is asking for a steam iron. I'm going to go to Target as they have some ones that are fairly basic (and I want an automatic shut off) I also will p/u one of those table-top iron boards - and he will use this I know- and he will be better off keeping his sister as far away from ironing as he can

For DD - she had previously asked me to write down some receipes of mine- for chicken soup, beef stew & applesauce- so I'm getting her a nice stock-pot and adding my receipes & some of the ingredients (mostly spices) for the things she asked for Also getting her a skillet & wok pan and some utensils

I don't think I'd expect to hear that from my dss OR my dds, lol! When dd18 was dutifully going down her checklist of needed items for college, she came to "iron" and said quizzically, "well, what do you think?"

Yes I beleive he does, he also wears dress shoes- right now he has the pair he "borrowed" from Dad! We got him a new pair from Bon Ton last month- they had a big sale on men's dress shoes so we got him a really nice pair with gell insoles for comfort (he stands all day)! Yes it is funny how they grow up- one day your buying Transformers or Ninja Turtles and the next it is steam irons

Don't you love it when they start asking for practical stuff for gifts? The first year that my ds was on his own he wanted stuff like knives and bedding.

A comment on the table top ironing board...I used to have one and I hated it. Because the already pressed part of the shirt can't hang down it bunches up on the table and gets wrinkled again; and if he wants to press the front of his slacks they don't fit under the board well because the legs get in the way; and you're stuck with whatever height of table is available, which for me anyway way was usually not the right height for ironing. I don't mean to rain on your parade but I thought that you might appreciate the feedback?

Have fun with your early holiday shopping!

hi Kathy,

Love the title to this!!!

How exciting to have your two home for the holidays!

Good news on already having your Christmas shopping ideas under control!

My boys iron their shirts for work too... amazing how they do grow up! Does Tom have to wear ties too?
