DD# 1 and her bf of 3.5 years got engaged last weekend!  Rae is a HS teacher in Chicago, and their hang up has been that her bf owns a town home in the 'burbs, and she MUST live in the city as long as she teaches there.  He finally said he wanted to marry her, job or no job, and start a family.  She will finish this school year at CPS, and they will get married early fall next year.  She will sign up to be a substitute if she doesn't land a full time job, and that might actually serve her better, since they want to get PG right away.   By the time the first kid turns 2, they hope to be able to sell the townhouse, and buy a house closer in, so it might work out, to wait with a full time job till they know where they will end up.  Besides, Rae can work on her own art, and build an inventory to back up her website.

Rae was thrilled, but also a little nervous about the job prospects.  Lolo said, "You got a great guy, with a great job, making great money, saying It's OK to stay home, take some time to do your own thing, and be with the kids, and you're going to COMPLAIN ABOUT IT???  Cry me a river!!!!".

So, both of my dds are settled and happy.  Bree gets bigger, and cuter every day!  And hopefully, she will have a cousin on OUR side within a couple years!

Last thing, the start of August, I finally stopped working altogether.  My boss was never going to recover from his cancer,  & the practice was falling apart.   The continual stress of not knowing how many hours, which day, IF there was a day I'd be working, was driving me crazy.  Plus, as fat and old as I am, running around after a toddler AND working, was killing me.  So, I "retired".  Not even temping.  And I'm much happier.

Hope the rest of you are doing fine.

Such a cute little granddaughter there and I bet you're looking forward to more.  I think it should be easier to find a new job than to find a good DH so hopefully everything will end up working out w/ Rae.

Such a cutie!!! I have to agree, once you've found that awesome guy and he has a well paying, stable job, you can figure everything else out. Congrats to them!!

It's wonderful when their plans come together.  Best wishes to them on their future plans!  And enjoy your "retirement!"

Congratulations to Rae!  Sounds like she has a lot of exciting plans ahead of her. And Bree is a real cutie-pie.

I guess, even with my lurking fairly regularly I missed this!  First of all, congrats to Rae!  Her fiancé sounds like a great guy and 3 1/2 years is a good length of time, especially at that age, to know if he's the right one.  Ok, now about that grand-baby of yours - what a cutie!  You must be having a ball with her.  My job share partner just became a grandma a few months ago and is retiring in December.  Glad you can do it - no time like the present to embrace your family!

i keep thinking one of these days I'm going to be here making my own announcement of my daughter's engagement, but after all the talk of marriage early on, they seem to be taking their time.  Dd and bf just moved out of the family home (his) that they were living in, to a much smaller one BR apartment which is actually nearer to us. They are doing well and seem happy but no wedding bells yet.  Her sister is still up in Oregon and and we went to see them earlier this summer.  She is working, he is still unemployed (hopefully not for long!) and they are in no way ready for kids yet.  So I think it'll be awhile before I'm in your shoes!
