Hi!  Wasn't sure if I should post here or not because ds graduated in 2010 & my husband & I have moved on past college years.  So while I'm sitting at home waiting for Storm Sandy to arrive or is it Hurricane Sandy, I thought I'd post here before my electricity goes out with the storm.  So news on our front:

1.  We moved - purchased a co-op apartment nearby..  Basically, took advantage of low home prices & low interest rates.  We got 3.8% & we put 20% down payment.  Purchase price was $212,000. for 1 BR, 1 Bath with 950 sq. ft.  So finally we are homeowners - no more renting.  I had to wait all these years just to afford something decent in Westchester County.  Truth be told - we could have afforded a house years ago BUT I would never want to live in those towns because it's not exactly safe & the school district is forget it. - enough said.

2.  Kids (now adults) - Renee is 28, still with same boyfriend from high school, still working for same post production co. near Times Square & still living near us.  Only update - her boyfriend (29) graduated college (degree is in biology) & he's applying to graduate school across the U.S.  So they may have to move, but no word yet on status.  They are not married & no kids - We gave up a long time ago on wedding plans or grandkids.  His side of the family is still pushing.  Our son, James, 24, is living in Boston & working for an insurance co. He graduated from Bentley with a degree in economics/finance.  Renee's degree is in film.

3.  David & I are still working - he teaches high school math & I work in retail.  Planning to retire in 2014.  May be sooner if politics gets in the way.  Meaning NYC needs low performing schools to improve & raise State assessments.  So with his principal & asst. principal leaving next June, the new administrators will see a 63 yr. old teacher earning top dollar & will want a 23 yr. old fresh out of college earning 1/2 his salary to replace my husband.  So we're well prepared incase next June it's "don't come back"  We went over every possible scenario while we were house hunting - the banks required us to.

4.  Hurricane Sandy - Around here - you would think the world is coming to an end.  Went food shopping, stopped at Costco, etc.  My goodness, the parking lots are packed - I had to park in the boonies, the lines at the register - geesh.  I felt sorry for everybody who had milk in their carts & took their small kids with them.  Poor parents.  Thank goodness those tired kids were NOT MINE!  Been there, done that.  And by now the shelves are empty.  So now I'm home chillin & I called out sick for tomorrow.

Hey Kathy! Great to hear from you! Sounds like everyone is doing great there. My oldest is now 25 and in his 2nd year of med school in the Chicago area. Youngest is 22 and living at home. Going to the local CC. Third try for college for him - hopefully this will be the charm!

I'm fairly updated with this Board. Read most previous posts last night. Question - what's Jason's specialty in med? Didn't see you post that before. My guess - nutrition or something to do with eating disorders? I remembered. Give Justin some time. As much as you & dh want the college degree, he will succeed eventually. Currently, latest forecast is Sandy will start at noon today (it's 9:46 AM now) & the worst will be this evening. Hope my electricity stays on - crossed fingers.
