I don't recall if I shared this here, but after 15 months of spinning his wheels here, creating a ton of drama in our home, and continually backsliding into rebellious adolescence, we gave S (our 26 y/o foster DS) 2 months to find a place of his own back in March.

I don't have any really good advice, but you don't need any because I know you know you've done the right thing by having him move out.

I am so sorry Rose. I knew that you were hoping that this move of his and his recent legal problems would wake him up. You & your hubby have done everything you can to help this young man.And yes, it comes a time when you have to put your health first and foremost. His behavior and that of his g/f were putting too much of a strain on you.

Rose, there are people who, because of their genetics and environment (especially when a child) are more prone to addictive behavior.

I do believe he's headed down the road of alcoholism if he isn't already there... I think he has some sort of "addiction gene" if something like that exists, because it does seem that he's always "addicted" to something, be it illegal drugs, cigarettes, and now alcohol

I believe that as well (about the addiction gene) - in my family, there are generations of alcoholics, and many of those that aren't-and some that are-show

Everyone has said very wise things, so I'm not going to repeat any of that.

Well, I saw S last night for the first time in about a month... he's lost quite a lot of weight, he doesn't LOOK healthy, I don't know how much he'd had to drink before we saw him at a tractor pull about 20 miles away (but he was buzzed then already), but I saw him down quite a few when we were there, and then he got in his truck and drove home. :(

Oh Rose, I am so sorry. S is so self-destructive, I am speechless.

That must be so hard to watch when you have done a lot for this guy & tried to get him on the right path, but there were also so many years before your family took him in when he had all those bad influences in his formative years.
