AP class credit question

Hi. My son is a senior in high school so I figured you guys might know something I don't. My son took AP Stats and he was planning to take the AP exam but he found out that his college does not award credit for the AP Stats class. It seems odd because he will be studying engineering and they award credit for Calc AB and BC and for Physics C, but not Stats. Any ideas why that would be? FYI - he is planning on attending Colorado School of Mines.

Thanks for telling me what the acronym stood for.

Thanks for your input. You are correct that it was not a waste of time. I just think that ds would have chosen a different AP class if he had known that it was a class for non- science majors. I am also happy to hear that your son is having a good experience with a college math teacher. Both my husband and I studied engineering at big colleges and had horrible experiences with college math. Part of the reason that my son liked Mines was because it is small.

I'll second that for UIC(C in my case) - ended up with 'recognition of completion' in mathematics. Only prof I didn't thrill to was in my 6th quarter of calc...

I agree with you--but especially with these statements:

Tooner, it just depends on the college - I'm referring to both the AP credits and the quality of the professors.

I took Calc 101 and Chem 101 at a huge university with 600 other students in each class.

Wow, you must have gone to a better college than I. When I went to Cornell the Math profs stunk big time. Everyone knew you just had to teach yourself. I thought my son was smart to take as much math as he could in high school where the teachers like to teach.

Many or most engineering majors will choose AP Calc as thier Math
if both AP Stats and AP Calc are offered.
cause they have to take several semesters of calc in college
and tons of physics,and engineering.
