Do you see your kids in any of these profiles?
Does your kid love their career choice?

I think one thing 20-somethings forget is that their parents didn't *always* have the career or "things" that they have now, and the kids want the same lifestyle that the parents have.

Bunnierose I think you pretty much summed it up for me.

I would add that the parents of those 20 somethings have seen some previous times that were pretty bad economically. I remember an awful recession at the time I graduated college. There was also a big stock market crash a couple years after I started working that seriously damaged my hard saved retirement fund. As for when to have kids. Well, if you are totally looking at it from a personal gain perspective, it doesn't make any sense to ever have kids. It is always going to be harder on you financially, emotionally and physically to have kids than to not have kids, so having kids is never a logical decision.

I dont like throwing the baby out with the bath water....

I know twenty somethings who are exactly like your article. Of course in my day when I was young, we had some of those types of people too. That was 30 years ago. I think it depends on the young adult and what kind of environment they were raised in. I do tell my kids to pick something they like to do as a job. Not everyone finds that job in their lifetime, for whatever reason. Not all twenty somethings dislike work. Not all twenty somethings are motivated in their work either, just like the thirty, forty and fifty somethings. There are some really wonderful and giving twenty somethings, you just have to look a bit harder to find them.
