Do you buy lottery tickets?

The powerball is reaching a half billion. Me: No.  It’s not that I have some moral stand against gambling; I just know that the odds are better that I’d be stuck by lightning. The folks at work have put together a kitty and texted me to bring my dollar ...so maybe a buck once in a blue moon is worth the risk of a lightning strike or two?

Hi Jean,   the way our 401 k options are going, you are right  it is like gambling! don't you think it is a big gamble by Obama to choose Sally krawcheck for the SEC? She has some pretty wild views on workers taking risks.

Nope--I've never bought a lottery ticket either, knowing the lousy odds of winning.  When we drove to WI for Thanksgiving we were surpised by the new casinos popping up.  I've never been to one of those, either, except in LasVegas or on a cruise ship, where I could stand the noise and smoke for only 10 minutes or so.  Although I'm not into gambling, I do gamble in the stock market and have seen plenty of losses there; because I do some analysis in the process, I feel that it's less like gambling, but when an individual investor is up against the big guys & hedge funds, it's really no different.  What's one to do, though, with interest rates at <1%?

<<Hi Sue Is it ironic to you like me that some anti-tax people will carry on about an additional one percent on their income taxes but will wait in lines that wraps around buildings or drives miles to buy a lottery ticket?>>

LOL!  Yep-me too.

And no- I don't buy lottery tickets either.  I did once many years ago.  Won nothing.  What a waste of a dollar.
But now it's $2.
