DH should be picking him up from the train station right about now.  He's only home for a few days this time, then going back to spend senior week with his friends (he isn't a senior, but they all are).  Then he'll move out of his apartment on 5/18 and bring his stuff home.  Then he goes back on 5/27 to live in a dorm (ick!) for four weeks while he does research for a professor.  Then he heads from there to Peru for six weeks.  So we will have him for a little less than two weeks this month, and then not again until August.  At that time I expect his Spanish to be good enough that he can be our main translator for our family vacation to Spain in August.

I'm a little bummed we won't be seeing more of him, but I suppose that's what normally happens as they get older.  At least that's the idea, right?

Enjoy the time you have with your ds! You're right - that's what happens as they get older. It's been several years since Jason has actually been home for the whole summer. Makes the times he does come home more special!

Sounds exciting.  What is he going to be doing in Peru?

He is going to be working on an archeological dig.  It's been going on for 20 years and is very well-organized, with housing and all that.

Are you enjoying having him home? His summer sounds exciting. Is the trip to Spain because one of your kids is doing a semester abroad? What part of Spain?

We were originally planning to go to Spain because DS was going to be there this past semester.  He decided not to due to several factors, but we decided to go to Spain anyway, just in the summer rather than the spring.

We're going to arrive in Madrid and spend a few days, then spend 3-4 days making our way north and east to Barcelona, visiting Segovia, Burgos, Rioja, and Pamplona.  I'm so excited about this.

And yes - his summer is ridiculously exciting.  He also expects to do some drawings for one of his anthro professors' books.  There is a question of how he'd get paid, since the prof is visiting, but he really wants to do it.  He's an excellent artist in ink & pencil, and getting paid to do it on a topic that he's also excited about - wow!

He's going to have a busy, but great summer!  Enjoy your trip to Spain!  And your precious time with him.  I also have to keep reminding myself that the point of having children is to raise them to be responsible participants and make their own way in the world.
