DS is going to Spain!
Fri, 10-26-2012 - 11:35am

DS got his acceptance letter to spend the spring semester in Spain.  He is both excited as well as panicking over how he is going to fulfill all his degree requirements for two majors, since he didn't start taking courses for the second major until late in his sophomore year.  But I think (hope) more excited than anything else.

We were planning to spend our spring break with him in Spain, but he said he'd like to take the opportunity to do some traveling on his own during that week, which is certainly reasonable.  We'll just go during the summer, or maybe we'll go somewhere else.

He has to attend an information meeting and then have an individual meeting with the Resident Director of the Spain program next week.  I'm so happy for him!

I'm glad he's willing to go - ds refused to go there where his previous U has a campus, because his gf is in a program that doesn't get to go. Now that they've broken up and he's at a different U, this one's big campus is in Austria and I'm really hoping he considers it!

¡Vale! How exciting for him. Will he be in/near Barcelona? If he has access to Netflix tell him to watch L'Auberge Espagnole Wink

That's exciting--and a good excuse for you to visit him.  I wish I had done junior year abroad but I was too timid to do something like that even though I was majoring in languages, so it would have made sense to go.

Exciting!  I hope all goes well and that Spain's economy starts picking up when he's there.

Well, after much discussion, DS decided not to go to Spain next semester.  Academically, it was going to be very difficult for him to complete the requirements for two majors if he went, and he really wants to finish with both English & Anthropology majors.  Emotionally, he is finally feeling really happy where he is and and leaving now seems too disruptive.

He is looking at applying to a couple of archeology field programs for the summer in Spanish-speaking countries.  And we may end up all going to Spain for vacation anyway next summer.
