The week is coming to a close. How is everyone doing? Heard from the college kids this week? Any plans for your weekend? Did your college student tell you their plans or how classes or their new semesters are proceeding? Have you already planned your dinner for tonight? Still have to go shopping/make reservations :smileywink: How about a harder question to ponder? :smileyhappy: What was the last thing you did for the first time?

DS came by work Wednesday so I could take him to his rheumatologist, who put him on new meds. Otherwise I get an occasional couple-word email, or pics of his new kitten and details about her antics. (He lives about 3 miles away, and is about 2-3 miles from his U). This U is a much better fit - his advisor, unlike the one the last two years who never even contacted him when requested other than to say he was too busy, is the dept chair who seemed to take an immediate liking to him. And he loves his classes (finds the one education class very repetitive but still somewhat interesting) Otherwise he's busy valeting about 3 nights/weekend, and sometimes makes good tips, but usually there are a lot of cheapskates out there who assume he gets paid a salary so they don't tip at all - yeah, but it's $2/hour!

Dinner - not sure yet. My convection microwave (KitchenAid, from the early 80s, came with the house) won't hold a temperature any more (microwave part is fine) so we're probably going to grab something and then head to the hardware store later.

Ponder question - that's hard! I guess it'd probably be trying a new food at this food truck gathering they had in our local park Tuesday night (that event is kinda new/fun -they have about a dozen or more different food trucks and a local band come play at a local park (3 different parks, a different one each week), 3x/month in Aug/Sept/Oct) The jicama slaw was a bit strong for me!

Doing well here.  DD19 might be coming home on Saturday.  She ended up not being able to come home over labor day weekend, so it will be nice if it works out this weekend.  We did go see her last Sunday, so her grandfather who was visiting from AZ could see her and her school.  DD22 will spend the weekend with her boyfriend's family, like she usually does.  She had her first all day Master's seminar last Saturday, and has a working idea for what she will do her thesis on.  DD19 is busy busy busy with school, work, extra curricular stuff on campus and life in general.  She's more happy this year than the past two, and she thrives on being busy, so all is good. She's not loving math (no surprise) and loving her Woman and Gender studies class.

DH has been in San Diego this week and comes home today.  I will be happy to see him, and our dumb dog will be even happier. I have a knee injury and it is painful to walk much, so the dog has been getting much shorter walks than he is used to.  Supper might just be take out pizza.  I have physical therapy after work, so I don't think I'll feel like cooking much.

The last thing I did for the first time was drive to the Oakland airport yesterday.  I've been a passenger several times, but never had to find it on my own.

We talked to Jason last night. He said he's going to dinner with friends tonight but most of the weekend will be spent studying. He has his nuero final and a big pharm exam next week. This past week they learned how to do breast exams and he got to do his first one on a standardized patient. By the middle of October they'll have to give a complete head to toe exam on a REAL patient. Not sure what Justin's plans are for the weekend - probably not much as he still hasn't found a job! He did drop his math class even though he got an A on the first quiz. He didn't feel the teacher did a good job teaching and often made mistakes when demonstrating things. Although he was able to keep up at first by doing the problems on his own he could tell that he wasn't able to do that for long. At least he dropped instead of failing! So now he's only taking 11 hours and we've 'coached' him that he needs to up the part time job search!

We have a fairly busy weekend (for us). Meeting friends for dinner tonight, dh is going to a friend's in the morning for a big shooting extravaganza - friend has several acres with lots of movable/innovative targets. Sunday is our big 20th anniversary celebration at church. DH and I plan to go hiking after that and then meet another couple for dinner Sunday night.

Hmm - last thing I did for the first time... Probably ate at Ditka's in Chicago for the first time in June.

Hi sue, I did not know your boy had rheumatism. Will this affect his studies? That is great news on his adviser.maybe he could help him find a better paying job?? I agree there are a bunch of cheapskates, I know this gal who tips on the total before taxes! My boys took us to truck food in Texas we don't have any here on the island. What were you shopping at the hardware store?

Hi Sharon, My youngest took a women and gender study course, he gave me his books, some really challenging reading! My mom is coming next weekend for her birthday and we will take her to UF to see a football game and my youngest's digs and classmates. How did your visit go? How did you hurt your knee?

We had a really nice visit with my Dad. He was impressed with Amanda's college and dorm room (it's a beautiful campus and a great dorm) I can't pinpoint exactly how I hurt my knee. I think it might have been at the gym. I hurt it in July, but of course I waited a month before going to the doctor, thinking it will get better. I've been doing physical therapy 3 times a week, and there has been a little improvement, but I'm not where they think I should be. I have an MRI on Monday and see an orthopedic doc on the 1st. They think I tore my meniscus, so we'll see if it is bad enough to need surgery. Hopefully not!
DD ended up not being able to come home this weekend. Her coworker got very ill and had to go home for a few days, so Amanda is working her on call shift today. We'll look forward to seeing her next weekend.

Hi Pam,
Hiking sounds like fun. Have the leaves got any colors yet?
I put in my fall garden yesterday, it has gotten cooler at night here. When my youngest had neuro all the guys go no shave, was wild seeing photos of his classmates.
With retailers gearing up for Christmas hopefully Justin can get on with one of them. Is ditkas a sport place?

My week has been busy too. I got a serger that our store was tossing because they stopped doing alterations. Have to figure out how I can sweet talk my dh into putting wheels on the table. My youngest was home last weekend to pick up discs of the wedding pix. They left the dress so guess they want us to put in top of closet?? O have npr heard from my oldest however will have to touch bade about meeting him in Atlanta in Oct We had a broccoli tater casserole and London broil and peach blueberry pie. Tonight it is bean soup.
The last thing first I did was use a serger! Now to find some projects.

Serger....had to look that one up.  It would have come in handy last weekend when I was fixing old towels that were fraying at the edges; I just used a zigzag stitch, or rolled the edges and stitched them down.  The odd things I find to do in retirement, huh?  Back when I was still working, the old towels were just tossed in the trash.

Last night DS29 spent with his gf, but he said he'd be studying the rest of the weekend.  They stopped by last Saturday for dinner after a quick trip to Shenandoah.  DH was busy working when they were here, or maybe he used that as an excuse to avoid the gf.  (After the big fight in July, he can't understand why DS is still with her.)  But I enjoyed a nice, long discussion with them.

We haven't had a real conversation with DS22 since he and his gf visited us in August.  About a week ago he did reply to DH's text, saying he was too busy to talk.
