Time magazine has an article on a new restaurant opening in SF that will only feature grilled cheese.
Do you or your kids order grilled cheese out?
What soup or side is your choice to accompany this sandwich?
Do you have a favorite cheese or bread?

When we were in texas they had a hamburger that had two grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon in side as the bread. My son loved it.
Is there anything better than butter and cheese? ;)

DS18 and dh are not grilled cheese fans. I like grilled sourdough from Panera (St Louis Bread Co here) with colby jack, myself! But no, I've never ordered it when out. There's a bar here that has the burger inside a grilled cheese sandwich too -no thanks!

We have a panera in the shopping center with our store. One of my co workers loves their broccoli cheese soup and she only ever eats cheese or turkey sandwiches. I usually get a salad and strawberry smoothie.

Colby on sourdough sounds perfect for lunch!

We have a new place in the mall food court called Cheese Boy (I couldn't click on your link) that only sells grilled cheese--oh I think it has tomato soup too.

I'll try again with above link. The Author questions whether we can get a cheese sandwich out at a restaurant that is worthy of moms.
He makes a good point of how do we make it to go... The cheese oozes into paper...nothing beats comfort food for me. My mother always made tomato soup. She added pickles tothe sandwich. What about yours? Tomato soup?

I love grilled cheese and tomato soup for a quick easy dinner. I usually make it with muenster cheese on a fairly dense whole wheat bread, so right there the author of the article and I disagree. I think that my kids would disagree with him too since there has never been a loaf of white air bread in my house so my kids do not associate it with Mom. I'm pretty sure that they share my disdain for Wonder bread and American cheese, especially foodie ds (who is moving to SF in 10 days and can try the new restaurant for himself). And we put some coutons in the soup.

I don't think I would go to a grilled cheese restaurant... when I eat out I want things that I can't or won't make at home.

I also question how the "to go" sandwiches will keep from getting soggy.

I do agree with the author on one thing though, that the bread has to be evenly browned. I'm quite the stickler on that LOL. I think my dh has made me grilled cheese once--it was buttered and browned only in the center (which was not a surprise because that's how he butters bread too). After that I told him I'll make the grilled cheese from now on!

Not sure this qualifies as a grilled cheese sandwich, but this time of year I love a slice of home grown tomato on a slice of rye bread (must be good rye bread) covered with a slice of swiss cheese toasted until the cheese melts. Mmm.. Makes my mouth water just thinking of it. I haven't had it in years (forgot about it until you asked about grilled cheese sandwiches) and now I think I am going to buy rye and Swiss cheese tomorrow.

FYI - the open faced tomato and Swiss on rye was my mom's grilled cheese. The rye bread that she got from Kaufman's Bakery in Buffalo was fixture in our house. Mmm...I can still remember getting the loafs still warm.

I love grilled cheese and tomato soup - haven't had it for years. I think that might just be lunch for dh and I tomorrow! I use velveeta cheese, nothing except cheese on the sandwich and then I dip it into the soup. DH likes ham on his cheese for a grilled ham and cheese. I think I got a grilled cheese at a restaurant once years ago although it wasn't a specialty grilled cheese restaurant. And I also love the cheesy brocolli soup at Panera's. And the French onion soup.

Yeah, grilled cheese to go would kinda be like panini to go - I can't imagine it staying 'crispy' enough or warm enough to stay gooey!

When ds was in Boy Scouts, one of the activities for the new scouts at the New Scout Outing was to make the perfect grilled cheese sandwich (creativity welcomed) - judged by the older scouts. Very fun. (just to get them in tune that it's expected for everyone to cook!)

DH and ds also don't like tomato soup. Frankly I like both, but not together! My dad always put noodles into his tomato soup, so I either do that or saltines or oyster crackers.
