HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Wishing you all, and your kids, a wonderful 2014!

Did you do anything fun for New Years Eve?  Do you have any special traditions to bring in the new year?   How did your CS celebrate?

For the past few years we have done the same thing.  We went out to dinner with a couple whom we have been close friends with for over 25 years, then went to another close friend's home for a bunko party.  Both are nearby so we didn't have to do a lot of driving.  It was a nice night.  A cycling buddy was organizing an early morning ride up our local mountain and we were considering going, even though we got home at around 1am.  I set the alarm for 7:30, rolled over and asked dh what he though...and we both decided to silence the alarm and go back to sleep!  37 degrees at 8am wasn't nearly as inviting as my warm, cozy bed! Smile  Today we will try to do some cleaning up and then watch the Rose Bowl.  Hope you all have a nice, relaxing day today!

We have a family tradition of going for a hike on New Year's Day, no matter how nasty the weather. (One year this meant running on the town forest trails near our house for about 20 minutes and then hauling back home because of the biting wind chill).

Today, we're skipping the hike for the first time in years because DS 16 hates hiking and has to be coerced, I have a nasty chest cold, and DD (our CS) is sore from ice skating on a pond near her friend's house until well past midnight. So glad I didn't know about the skating adventure until after she was safely home, because I didn't think the ice was thick enough!

The 3 of us went to lunch NYE at a local mansion that was owned by beer barons back at the turn of last century (Lemp) - known to be haunted. That was fun. Then ds went out with friends and stayed out til after midnight. We just hung out at home yesterday; dh raked as it was still warm, then we played some board games. Today's high is 18, tonight 1F.  Brr.  Next Monday looks brutal here - might be setting record cold temps.

Happy New Year to all!

I actually had a fun NYE for a change.  Even back when I was married, we hardly ever did anything, but now DS is 18 and he doesn't want to be home with mom--he went to First Night in Boston--they didn't buy the button to get into the indoor entertainment, so they watched the parade, saw the ice sculptures and looked around, then came home--luckily no driving involved.  I had some friends over for a party that I organized in 2 days.  Everybody brought something.  There were only 9 people--7 women & 2 men as most of us are single.  I felt like the UN because there were people there from Ukraine, Brazil and Italy so we also had a combination of speaking Portuguese, Spanish & Italian--sometimes in the same sentence by accident.  My 24 yr old DD, who is a nurse, ended up having to work since she had Christmas off.

we had a very low key NYE. DH was already back in Texas, and I spent the evening packing bags for us to had back to Texas on New Year's day. And we watched football. New Year's day we spent a good portion of the day flying and in airports, add in a 2 hour delay for a mechanical issue and I was glad to be home and just rest and watch the Rose Bowl!

This was the first year in a while that my sister hasn't come to visit for New years.  She is so fun, and was missed this year. We went out to a Chinese dinner with a group of friends then back to one of their houses for games. DH actually made it to midnight!  DD 24 went to Santa Cruz for a concert.  DD21 said she went to 1 bar for 1 drink with her girlfriend, then back to her apartment to put on jammies and watch the ball drop.  For her first New Year's Eve as a legal drinker, it sounds pretty tame!

I'm very late, but happy New Year to you all!! I had a very nice New Year's and holiday. We had kids and grandkids in town and we had a blast! Now one broken thumb and one badly bruised knee later, I'm realizing I'm not Peggy Fleming anymore. No more ice skating! DD started school this past Tuesday. This is her make or break semester. She has her help resources in place this semester, so hopefully she will do well. I'm taking an accounting class which starts next week. I'm considering re-entering the workforce. I previously worked in accounting 20 years ago. I have no idea how to do it with today's computer software and hardware. We'll see. Next weekend I'm probably going to Atlanta to visit a new grandson born on Sunday. Other than that nothing much going on, LOL!
