Has anyone had experience with netflix? I was thinking about getting it for my son for the winter months when there isn't anything he can do outside. He spends a lot of time outside messing with his car but now that it is getting colder and weather will be turning nasty he is going to need something to do and I was thinking netflix might be something he could use.

My kids have had it for a long time and finally convinced us to sign up for it, a few weeks ago. So far, so good. Its a better deal if he has a stable high speed internet connection so he can stream movies etc. The turn around time on the DVDs by mail is pretty fast, but the subscription offers unlimited viewing via computer, or gaming device like a Wii connected to a TV. There are a lot of movies and tv shows available instantly via streaming and that's how he would really fill the hours.

My ds doesn't have a gaming system so he bought a Roku (?) which is a connection box that allows him to stream to his tv. I don't know anything about that part of it but the Netflix website has a list of compatible systems/devices which you could then Google.

I don't have any firsthand experience, but I've really only heard good things and read very good reviews on it as well (we simply don't watch a lot of movies). How is your son doing these days? I know those first few months can be tough on anyone, especially kids who are homebodies like your son. Are things looking up? Is he excited to get home for the holidays?

Thanks for the replies...I had heard that he could stream thru his xbox or ps3 as he has both in addition to his computer.

Netflix is great, especially if you do not have cable.

I don't currently have it - but seriously considering getting it. My sister has it and loves it. My DS has it too and he used it a lot! He likes a lot of historical documenteries and he got a lot of those too. It was so easy & inexpensive.

Recently on our cable we dropped our movie package and we are thinking of getting Netflix as we can then choose the movies we want to see.

But he is excited about coming home gave me a list of what he wants to eat when he is here so I will be busy.

Same with my dd, lol... I haven't gotten a list, but she keeps mentioning things that she misses eating. ;) I do agree with you; it's probably better if he can wait a bit. Maybe if he stretches the time between visits, it will get easier to stay there. i'm glad to hear he's doing better.

Hi Dawn,

I had netflix and stopped subscribing because we found we went a couple months not using it. I think we did initially then the newness wore off .Or I had worked my way through my movie queue maybe :smileywink:think it was last spring we turned it off.

We even ended up turning off the cable over the summer. I have not missed it all... We found with the internet we can watch everything we need... We did go to an election party to watch the returns .... And my husband travels so I'm sure he gets his cop fix during the week.... With the weather here guess we spend most of our time mostly outside.

We have Netflix and really like it. The turn around time is super fast. I don't order as many movies now that we have a Redbox right up the street from us, but my husband likes to get them streamed to his computer. My oldest used our account for a while and would have them sent to her computer at school, but now she has her own account and has Roku. To tell you the truth, I'm not quite sure what all that does, but she's really happy with it.

We just resubscribed now that we can stream through our Wii. We're planning to cancel our cable (well, DirecTV) now. Between streaming the shows that are available and getting the DVDs we're set!
