Hi

I am about to go through the same thing! My youngest son is heading off to college 4.5 hours from home the end of August. I also have an older daughter in college but she is less than an hour from home. Even so, she has a life of her own and during the school year I don't see much of her. That will officially make me an empty nester. Not looking forward to it.

I know exactly what you mean about being happy and sad all at the same time. I am so proud of both my kids but I guess it's like mourning the loss of your family. Things will be very different. I know for some it's not a big deal and some even look forward to their kids leaving ( I admit there are times when I can't wait for my ds to leave-he's a handful)but I'm someone who has a hard time with change and I find myself in tears alot lately. Guess I'm just not ready -but I think he is.

One thing I would suggest after going through this with my oldest,

I'm assuming he'll have email? What seemed to work for me last year when I was in your shoes (I have an only, went 'away' to school 7 miles away but didn't come home for quite some time nor did he want to) was sending

Just be prepared to be sad for a while, but then you'll get used to it.
