What is everyone doing over the holiday?

I am at a family reunion, in car to the beach, bbq and beach volleyball and kite flying on my agenda.
What about you and your family?
Anyone grilling out or going to fireworks?

My quick reply...my daughter's wedding is today! I'm about to head out to the girls' hotel to help with primp and prep, dh and the rest of my family will meet us later at the venue. We've had a VERY busy weekend, but I will report back later when the dust settles! :-)

Yesterday DH and I went to one of our favorite beaches for a picnic. It was 100 degrees in our town and at the beach we were freezing with jackets on. Perfect! We decided to take the long way home and go by Amanda's college to see her. Sam hadn't seen her dorm yet, so he got the grand tour. None of us were hungry for dinner so we ended up going out for frozen yogurt. We only spent about an hour with her, but it was nice. Today I'm taking Ashleigh shopping for some work clothes and tomorrow the three of us are seeing a movie. I love 3 day weekends!
PS I don't know of place doing fireworks around here. I'm hoping to buy a new gas grill this weekend and grill on Monday.

No fireworks around here today/this weekend that I know of - I wish there were! We invited dh's family over for a pool/bbq party today but as usual, a few didn't respond, so I have no clue if I'm cooking for 10 or 18! So I'm making 8 brats and 12 pieces of chicken and we'll just have leftovers if they don't show. Also making this Panera recipe for spinach artichoke dip to use with their sourdough and 3 cheese bread chunkis, and some chocolate chocolate chip cookies - house smells great! DS19 will come visit; not sure on his gf or not (nursing student also busy with pledge time for her sorority). With the weather, probably won't be in the pool anyway.

Tomorrow we hope to just go to the zoo or something; lucky to see ds today for a little bit. The weather has significantly cooled off after a major storm last night (was like 100; now high in the low 70s!). Went to see the movie Senna last night with friends of dh that are also F1 fans - very well done. Other than that, reading and watching a bit of tv and doing the usual chores!

Yesterday the kids came over, we plucked most of the annual herbs, picked the tomatoes, and cooked. We made red sauce with the herbs and tomatoes, crumbed up the stale bread and stuffed 6 artichokes, cooked up 3lbs of sausage, and 1.5 lbs of farfalle. We made enough food for an army, but after we'd eaten, and packed up the take-home pkgs, I was left with 2 six-inch pieces of sausage, and 1 artichoke. Lolo and Will also brought over the 1st set of ultrasound pics. Can't see if there's a cleft chin yet, like Lolo, Rae & DH, so in 6 weeks we'll do the 3D/4D ones.

Today, since we've FINALLY gotten some rain, and it's cooled off, Dh & I went to the garden center to see what was on sale. I got six Echinacea "Hot Papaya" for 25% off, 3 half-gallon asters for $2 each, and 6 gallon mums for $3 each. The Hot Papayas were the prize. Now I've got to plant them!!

Spent the weekend visiting my parents in Maine. Wasn't forecasted to be very nice but the weather turned out great. Spent two glorious "last days of summer"

Hi Sharon,
I like long weekends too! I won a day off of work for my display selling the most Tervis so I'm still off!
Did you get the grill? What movie did you see? Did you already see the Help?
I bet Amanda enjoyed her time with you both!
How different is her dorm this year from last?
