I spent a large portion of today claming down dd, because her OB's office saw fit to call her at work, to advise her she was a "gray area" carrier of Fragile X syndrome, and that she should have genetic counseling.

Ugh sorry that they called and likely worried/upset her. At work no less! Modern medicine/technology/early screening is a blessing in many ways. But probably somewhat of a curse in some ways. And I've got to say - I just LOVE chubby little baby thighs and tummies. May not be the thing to say with all the uproar about childhood obesity but I think they're just so darn cute.... Can't belive she's already half way through her pregnancy!

I think your DH is right on target - concentrate on a healthy baby.

Rant away Sam, we are here for you!
My prayers ascend for your family!

I would have wanted to be called immediately, for me, getting the call in a different setting really would not change my reactions or feelings to hearing the news. One of the hardest parts of being a parent is hearing reports especially medical on our children...no matter what age. I am glad you and your DH had the time and she has her sister for support.
have you talked to her today?
How did your daughters co workers react? Did they let her leave work?

I don't know which is worse--getting the news right away or getting a message "your doctor wants to talk to you about test results" and then having to wait.

Just did a quick read on fragile x and I agree--it is bizarre that someone would call Lolo at work to notify her of it.

Honestly, I'm very surprised that they would do this. I've gotten a few bad calls over the years and they almost always try to get me to come in, and if not, they are as reassuring as possible and try to talk me through it. What if your dd were unstable (and no offense to your dd, but aren't all pregnant women a little unstable? ;))
